Thank you so much for laying out the facts -- with a timeline -- about Qatar! I've been tracking Qatar's horoscope for several years, as there is always action in the chart whenever Qatar is in the headlines. This week is no different, and I wrote several paragraphs about Qatar (and published its horoscope) in my last post. I will share your essay with my Avid Readers so they can see how the potential seen in Qatar's horoscope has manifested IRL. And now, on to Shel Silverstein...
What a story! The past is never past where Trump is concerned. In addition to the probable surveillance installed on the plane and that pesky Emoluments Clause, is the fact that THIS president thinks it's OK to fly around in some "gift" from a Middle Eastern nation and call it Air Force One. It's bad enough that this guy gets to besmirch the historical reputation of Air Force One while he's in office, but much worse that he doesn't even acknowledge its significance and seems happy to replace it with a "palace in the sky," from Qatar.
Air Force One brought Kennedy back from Dallas. Air Force One brought Nixon to China. Air Force One flew Bush Jr for half the day on 9/11. It's a significant aircraft, and the fuckin' asshole in office now just tosses it away as if it were nothing. And what's supposed to happen to the two new Air Force Ones that Boeing has been working on for years and slated to appear by 2027? Are they going into mothballs because Trump decided that "it would be stupid" to refuse this alleged "gift" from Qatar? I also love how even though Trump says it's a gift to the Department of Defense, so nothing to see here; it will depart with him for his "presidential library" (LOL) at the end of his term. "Whose jet? TRUMP'S JET! Whose jet? TRUMP'S JET!" And what does DOGE have to say? Anything about the two new Air Force Ones being built AND this new thing that will have to be taken apart down to the frame before it can be used? Or will Trump just decide to fly home in it from the Middle East this week? It WOULD NOT shock me. Even though he's been haunting us for a decade, Trump CAN still surprise me at the level of unethical shit he's willing to do, and making it seem like WE'RE WRONG for criticizing it.
I like to think that he cannot surprise me anymore, but your last sentence says it all. However I think that either oligarchs or the mafia, or P2025 cretins are helping dig up everything possible and dangle in front of him. He is a stupid man who hires a lot of stupid people, but he has some smart but evil ones too. And they have been busy. Thank you for this deep dive. Too bad our investigative agencies are so inept.
I'm sure trump is headed for a world's record of crimes in office for an elected head of a democracy...I could be wrong, but I don't think I'm that far off.
What's not being said is that our major intelligence facility for the Middle East is in Qatar. Has been for some time. It's no secret. But I do see Qatar as a quite vulnerable island, thus our military build-up to defend it.
As far as I see, Middle East money is one of the USA's greatest enemies. I'm surprised there is not more written about this, but investments by KSA, etc. can affect many corporations and sponsors of political action, so they can have depth in their effective actions in DC, and great influence, I suspect, in many decisions.
Definitely. However, his lies are usually state lies, not so much about himself personally. Although the Russians do publish macho images...it is questionably whether those are about him personally or another projection of the state.
Trump is gratuitous in his lying...WaPo noted 70% in his first term, really off the scale even for a politician (sic).
Universities, too. Lots of ME money funding gleaming buildings and stuff. I would rather they spend the money on that than on, I don't know, teams of hit men. But it's all complex, the US relationship to KSA especially makes one plug one's nose. Someone on Twitter posted a page about Qatar and terrorism. I didn't see much on that page that was radically different from what the US has done, TBH.
The best way to undercut the financial power of the ME is to end oil dependency. You never hear about how ridding ourselves of oil is good geopolitics. Those countries would immediately collapse. Which is why they are diversifying their holdings.
We allegedly have that in terms of production...not to mention burgeoning solar and wind power sectors, so we are energy independent. It's the rest of the world they're supplying as well...obviously some part of US businesses want to make big bucks there. Follow the money is still the key directive.
The intel unit in Qatar is really aimed at Iran, et. al. But I suspect we also have intel facilities in Israel and probably at our Turkish AF bases. So, a lot of that is not really about need per se but secondary intelligence gathering. We were 'off shore' for a long period in the ME, but then someone, against military advice, shot 105 mm naval rounds into Beirut and all hell starting breaking loose, including the creation of Hezbollah and Hamas shortly thereafter. That's when I became convinced that one of our political parties either has no sense at all or has serious foreign connections.
Excellent points, Steve. I hadn't thought about that w/r/t AF1. I didn't realize it was the same plane this whole time.
Trump just wants to cash in. He's pretty transparent that way.
What's funny to me is that MAGA -- Loomer, Shapiro, and a lot of others -- are all pissy about this not because he took the plane, but because he took the plane from a state that "sponsors terrorism," and that's just reductive and not strictly true. It's a case where them dumbing everything down works to OUR advantage for once!
No, it's not the same plane -- I think the Kennedy plane lasted through Clinton and then changed -- but it's the whole symbolism of it. For me, it's one of the things that MEANS something, and Trump is besmirching something else I loved about the USA. I suppose in the end the Qatar jet is like any other 747-8, and COULD be AF1, but it's still going to have that "bribe Trump" stink on it. My point is that AF1 has always been one of the "mighty planes," and to have it substituted with a counterfeit seems un-American. But, then again, what does one expect from Trump?
Loomer, Shapiro, and a whole legion of others are deeply weird people, but yes, we should take advantage of the dummies when we can. Also, with all the "work" she's had done, Loomer now looks like a man who sucks on lemons all day.
The Emolument's Clause: Use it or Loose it. Maybe tRump will retire early in order to enjoy this gift of grifting. If Congress prevents him from receiving it now; he’ll have to wait to enjoy his magic carpet ride after he leaves office, (I noticed that last night Maralago hosted an Arabian Nights party). In the meantime, it would probably take till the end of 2028 for US military to outfit it’s vast security requirements. Democrats could dangle it as a carrot to force an early resignation but then we’d be stuck w Vance. Or, we can elect Democrats in ‘26 & start an Impeachment.
In 2016, right after the election, I started a GoFundMe to pay him off to leave. The idea didn't take, and the company shut it down. But I was on the right track!
Only the orange imbecile could get me to half appreciate a Laura Loomer comment. The ultimate in your face, a $400 million gift. If he really wants to give us the finger, perhaps the signage from Trump's Taj Mahal exists and can be plastered on the side. Irony, it goes up in a blaze just like his casino.
People are saying he’s the most transparent President in the history of politics, which was always corrupt. But Ginni was pissed. All she got out of her underachiever was a trailer.
The secrecy has been creeping up on us like the lobster in the warming water. So by this second go around, it’s flooding the zone with Schitt time. They are brazen but never mistake that with honest transparency. The end result will astound those who can still be astounded. The others will continue in their stupor with not the remotest clue…
Maybe our press can find a new word for the worn out one of corruption. Gerrymandering and Citizen’s United after all, transformed eventually into voting things that just exist, and we vote around them. We are a people who just walk around the laundry basket all week as it empties out and we fill it up eating our triple whammy double cheese extra nacho diet burger after the tv commercial dials our phone for us on seeing pupil dilation. Carter had his Billy. The new Pope has an older brother. Finally Trump has no one hanging around his neck weighing down his true talents, now transparent for the world to see.
The PLANE is just a very small part of the Qatar Royal Families goal. The Long term goal is Mohammedism for the planet. But will the Sunni and the Shia and other offshoots be able to reconcile their thousand year disagreements.
Meanwhile the Mohammed boys are buying up the planet. Take Londons Little Doha. And alfalfa and water in the US Sonoran Desert for example.
Trumps great grandkids may not be able to practice as a "Christian Nation."
That notion would displeasure many Trump supporters.
Regardless both have scribblings that support rock throwing.
Name Trump’s Top 21 Grifts (Hint: One is a luxury Jumbo Jet from Qatar)
https://thedemlabs.org/2025/05/12/trump-top-21-grifts-luxury-include-jumbo-jet-qatar/
It's crazy that the memecoin business -- a thing that does not actually exist -- may be his biggest grift.

It’s like playing Monopoly. Hellofa emolument.

Thanks, Bill. It's a lot!
Our heads are spinning. WOW and thank you, Greg!
Thanks, Sara.
It’s TUESDAY🎉

God, Greg, this very well-written article is giving me an upset stomach. I need to head back to my bunker and read beach novels
There are beaches in Qatar... ; )

Thanks, JD. You're right about the dangle. And he now will take whatever he thinks he can get away with -- which is pretty much anything. Thanks, GOP!

Donald holds the Liar record
I'd be hard pressed to even come up with a close second.
Seriously. Putin, maybe?

Bureaucrat lies
He's the Wilt Chamberlain of lies.

That “bribe Trump” stink, for sure!
That explains a lot! As always, I’m impressed with the amount of research you do, Greg.
Thanks, Earl.
Now I have to read “Unredacted “.
Immediately! It's a fantastic book!

Watch him try to land it at Newark Airport...
Crap! This stinks and to think we can’t do anything.is maddening. But there is no way Donnie Two dolls is getting this plane.
The only way he doesn't get the plane is if the Qataris withdraw the offer. He already took the slings and arrows. Now he's all gimme gimme gimme!
P h u c k !
Although his supporters are beginning to come around.
I feel like I’m sinking in quicksand while waiting for Godot.
You are a gift!
Thank you!

LOL. Ha!
No one has ever been this corrupt. Boss Tweed is shaking his head in hell somewhere...

Personally, I love me a good ol' fashioned triple whammy double cheese extra nacho diet burger!
[Homer voice]: Mmmm diet burger.
Maybe this plane is like an Egyptian pyramid, an elaborate tomb?
One can only wish!
Wish him a flight like Prigozhin, same landing…
Greg Great scribbling.

Thanks, Cal. I wonder, with all of it, how much is conventional religion and how much is Mammon worship. I tend to go with the latter...
MAMMON:
"He that has the Gold rules."
RELIGION: Fanatical myth dwellers.
JD IN TX.
Thanks for the Like.
Good to know the tooth fairy failed to leave you coin.
