Greg- Most of the time my ideas fall flat, but once in a while I hit a zinger. So, first of all, the breakdown and history of vote winners/losers is really insightful. The breakdown with Obama and Trump is curious. I can't compete with a mathematician and in the end I guess we'll never know. What is flashing red is McConnell's election. Rumsfeld, McConnell, Cheney, Trump, the 4th of July deserters to Russia (Congressmen) and others will go down in my lifetime as the most evil, self-serving traitors. McConnell stole his seat time and again.
Here's my idea: I follow you, Malcolm Nance, Allison Gill, Sisters-in-Law, Zev, Michael Harriot, LB, Dr. Bandy Lee, Eric Boehlert, Ruth Ben Ghiat, LP, Lakota Man and others. Unlike Republicans who consolidate their interests, our pro-Democracy folks are doing completely separate things with the same objective in mind. It's hard following all of the above! Of course, there are more people I could name. But, maybe a ZOOM forum or collaboration with such great thinkers is in order. Bring all of the various constituencies and their followers together...Maybe another idea that will just fall flat. I know everyone has families and needs to make a living....
I think this is an excellent idea, especially now that quarantine restrictions have lifted somewhat. THere is power in synergy! Thanks for suggesting this.
If I had to pick, and I have long before this column, I'd say that the ONLY explanation for T****'s increase in votes in 2020 is due to rigging. He had the motivation, the means, and certainly the mindset for such a thing. The only problem with it was that they just didn't rig enough. The 81 million for Biden must have shocked them as much, if not more, than TFG's 74 million did us. They underestimated Biden and after four years of dystopian hell, NOBODY underestimated T****, and all that he could have done behind the scenes. T**** himself was way too stupid and self-involved to do these things on his own, which is why he filled his administration with ratfuckers from top to bottom.
He may or may not run in 2024, provided he's still a free man, but it would do all of us well to never underestimate anyone named T**** for the rest of time. Cocaine Junior may come up in the future as might Ivanka. They learned everything they know from daddy. They were the very first cult members.
Recently, to my absolute horror, I saw a clip from one of T****'s recent Nuremburg rallies that was on C-SPAN. In the lower right corner, C-SPAN had placed their "2024" logo. Whatever the clip was being used for (it might have been Stephen Colbert), nobody mentioned that logo. I thought, am I nuts? Did I just see that? Yes, I did. So, what MAGA at C-SPAN decided that mid-2021 was a time to start trotting out the "2024" for THIS guy? Talk about needing a trigger-warning!
Don't forget Carter was sabotaged in his intensive negotiations with Iran by Reagan and his criminal cabal. This resulted in a criminally warped election
Does anyone know the number of viewers of Fox, OANN, Newsmax and WWE? What about followers of Brietbart and the Wallstreet Journal? I wonder if by cobbling together some of those numbers, a predictable "base" number can be determined? Membership in NRA, various "bike" clubs and other entities might round out those numbers even more. Add in congregations that consider themselves "evangelical." Add in the number of citizens in the solid soiled South who voted for him.
And if said pickup truck has truck-nuts hanging from the back, flags or not, they are also not on our side. Those might be the tackiest things ever invented. I always picture the board room where ideas come from: "Hey, I know...."
You sure about that ahah? I hope you haven't made it this far without seeing that big and beautiful lifted truck (with the offroad light bar and everything) festooned with gigantic rainbow and BLM flags and a "TRUMP LOST LOL" flag in the style of the tRUmp 2020 ones?
Educated guess that I use is 40%, very round number, very rough number, no statistical basis. Using Trump’s election total compared to Biden’s also gives you a rough estimate.
Here you are, Greg, proving yet again why you are such a brilliant researcher and writer, and why I love you so much.
“None of this makes any sense—historically, statistically, anecdotally, any way you look at it.”
When I arrived at this point in your article, I was already writing a reply in my head. And then you brought in Louise Neufeld.
I am with Louise, before I even learned of her existence. Voter turnout was huge, massive, breaking records. That’s what accounted for Biden and Trump both getting more votes than anyone else in American history.
The reason for the massive turnout: this vote was a referendum. Of the historical examples you noted, only Herbert Hoover, the Black Thursday and Great Depression instance, are comparable to the 2020 election.
Keep in mind: we have a very small sample size here. Only one election every four years, a total of only 30 elections since 1900, and precious few True One Term instances. That means the historical record is not much to go on when looking for information. Instead of examining the social and historical precedents, we have to look into society.
The 2020 election was not business as usual, as presidential elections go, hence the difficulty in assessing and evaluating that event.
2020 was a referendum on Trump.
“So let’s examine the second option: Trump really did win that many votes. He really was a historical outlier. . . There really are that many gullible, hateful, racist, sexist, neo-Fascist, star-struck dipshits who voted MAGA in 2020.“
With all due respect, Greg, this phrase suggests you are out of touch with America. I will use the term “bubble” kindly and gently here, because I love you madly, I love your friends who drop articles here and post here madly, and I am one of your (and their) allies.
I am cursed, er blessed, with a father who is a lifetime conservative and who grew up in Nazi Germany. In every sense. I am also a truck driver who rubs shoulders weekly with regular working class dudes, and women although mostly dudes.
The 2020 election is a referendum on a class society, although it wasn’t clearly billed or presented as such to intellectuals like us. Donald John Trump represents, in about as clear and stark a fashion as possible, the white racist and male sexist and straight genderist society, the Old Order Society. As I said, the 2020 election was a referendum on Trump. That means a referendum on a polarized choice between either a white racist and male sexist society, or a diverse society.
That’s why the huge turnout. That’s why the record-breaking number of votes. And that’s why, imo, the final decision in favor of Biden, the non-racist and non-sexist and non-genderist option. And that’s also why scant votes for third-party candidates, because the choice was basically between one of two polarized options:
Society A, the society of the past, or Society B, the society of the future.
👉 Former Gov. Don Siegelman. See documentary ATticus vs. The Architect. And that architect is Karl Rove. Also read Stewart Stevens book, “It was All A LIe.” If you believe the election was honest? 👆 Don’t be naive; history repeats. Do you want Karl Rove to marry your daughter? That’s what I thought.
On the topic of ES&S, have you seen the exhaustive work of Jennifer Cohn documenting the deep and extensive security and functionality issues with ES&S equipment?
She is a true investigative journalist; her name definitely belongs in that list toward the top of this article.
Re: projection:
It's been obvious to me from day one that something is definitely not right in ES&Sland (their machines were used in ALL the sketchy, supposedly poll-busting 2020 races: McConnell, Collins, DeSantis, half of Texas counties, etc etc)—and that every single word of the Dominion bullshit has been BOTH projection AND distraction, right from the get go.
One particularly worrying development is trumpers actually succeeding in getting jurisdictions to cancel Dominion contracts just by pitching a big enough bitch about the usual lies. One Ohio county's Republican administrators ditched Dominion for just this reason—and of course switched to ES&S.
You and i both know that we're seeing the ACTUAL rigging proceeding apace here... i hope Ms. Pelosi has a finger on this pulse as much as she does on everything else, for the very sake of democracy. (i wait with bated breath to see whether Dominion's blockbuster lawsuits play into this series of events, too.)
.
Finally: I luv you Greg, but, i will definitely pop you right in the mouth if i ever hear you say "biglee" in person. Just Say No® to words from "populist" traitors who are fluent in exactly zero languages, please.

Nice. Lincoln was right: our defeat will come from within.
Alas yes.

I wish more Americans rejected dystopian hell. I really do.
This helps ground me with great clarity. Thank you
Thanks

No, but I can say that anyone who puts more than one giant flag atop his pickup truck is not on our side.
