The local indivisible group I rally with has a steady 30-40 people most of us 60+, several Veterans. once and a while a twenty year old will join us particularly if our group aligns itself with two of the local Pride groups. That camp and accompanying 19,300 acres or so is located in the middle of 'alligator alley' as the road from Naples to Miami is called. There's nothing there in terms of civilization (not that there is now unless you want to call concentration camps 'civilization').
I don't know how much facility and the road to it costs, but acreage wise, that's about $31,098 per for almost uninhabitable land except for big snakes (up to 18 feet or so), bears, mountain lions, mosquitos the size of aircraft, and more creepy crawling things than you want to imagine. It rains almost everyday in the wet season, via on-shore sea breeze fronts from both the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico...there's a reason few people live there. Plus, hurricanes that can wipe that place out in a minute (Miami has been lucky the last five years, but...)...tin buildings do so well in sustained 75+ mph winds. There are some really 'smart' guys behind this...where are all those south Florida Russians, btw?
So, someone made a hell of a killing on the sale of that land. There are agricultural concerns there to some degree, but you can guess who is out in the fields. They don't look like DeSantis or his wife. And, if they deport all of them, those fields are going to go untended - and they are a major source of food and income for the state (the same for Texas and California). DeSantis tried getting rid of all the labor before, and it was a big failure because the owners didn't like the loss of income. Much of the South is still dependent on the cheapest labor humanly possible, and there is a powerful push to keep it that way.

How could someone who was a respected high school teacher, a charitable, caring person who has never even had a traffic ticket be at risk of ICE? It made no sense. Yet so much of today makes no sense. Reading the likes of Timothy Synder, Heather Cox Richardson and Joyce Vance, no less one Greg Olear created a sense of belief, yes shit does and can happen.
Once belief hit home, deciding what next became key. Mrs OM and I were not going to stop making our feelings known on forums such as Substack and supporting local resistance groups. We strongly believe that We the People shall prevail, however it will not come easily and not without a huge fight. This said, protecting Mrs OM is a sole concern. We are fingers crossed a month away from joining our daughter in London. The UK Home Office recently granted us their version of a green card, a No Time Limit visa, we have full right to live and work there. We can resist from a distance and will do so but in the knowledge that Mrs OM is beyond the grasp of the puppy murderer and her minions.
To your friend I say, OPEN YOUR EYES AND EARS. As a famous NY Met once said although in an entirely different context, You Gotta Believe! Both miracles and shit happens.
