I could use a feel good movie. The Five 8 was fantastic. Those four women were articulate, caring people. The ONLY superhero movies I will deign to watch are Superman movies and Batman movies. I also have all of the X-men films because they sounded interesting but have yet to watch one of them. Since I was never a comic book nerd, that stuff just didn't stick to me. But I was a huge Superman and Batman TV watcher back in the 60s and 70s. George Reeves, Adam West, Burt Ward, et al.

That said history is littered with characters that fit the underlying narrative of good versus evil, including Henry 8th, Nero and Caligula, for me each the model for the orange imbecile, a sexually depraved and retribution driven madman whose paranoia knows no bounds. Hopefully like the movie and historically WE SHALL PREVAIL! Wish Gunn would consider writing a Prequel that provides the origin story of today's behind the scenes villians, Stephen Miller, Russ Vought, Len Leo and their ilk.
Wanted to see the movie Saturday but on Fandango every local cinema was sold out. Will try Monday when hardly no one goes to the movies.

Today's SCOTUS whom I always held in the highest regard now regularly rubber stamps obviously unconstitutional EOs. C'est la vie with Sinatra's "That's Life" playing in the background, riding high in April, shot down in May.

The new "Superman" rocks! David Cornenswet is the best Superman since Christopher Reeve! The 1978 movie's tagline was, "You'll believe a man can fly!" This 2025 release's tagline should be, "You'll believe a man can be good!" (You would think the MAGA crowd would love that since they see those of us on the left bashing all while males.)
Although I'm too young to remember the Lois Lane opposite George Reeve in the 1950s TV show, I've seen all the others, and as far as movies go, I agree with Greg that Rachel Brosnahan is the best Lois Lane. (If you include TV series, I would vote for Elizabeth Tulloch from "Superman & Lois." You is as tough as nails as a reporter, and yet vulnerable without surrendering to any damsel in distress caricatures.
Nicholas Hoult is a good contemporary Lex Luthor, although he seemed a little young to me. My first response was that his performance was a bit one-note, but then when I read some reviews and talked to a fellow geek who has seen the movie twice, I admit I was wrong. He cries for pete's sake when he is exposed and arrested! Plus, he knows how to quietly get Superman's goat while sipping a cup of coffee.
Speaking of animals, I loved Krypto! I vaguely recall him from the comic books, but here he is just playful, rambunctious, but ultimately loyal. Man's best friend with a cape and superpowers!
As for James Gunn's script bringing in international politics, remember that Christopher Reeve's fourth and final time donning the red and blue was called "The Quest for Peace," in which Superman gathered up all the nuclear weapons in the world in a giant fishing net and threw it into the sun (if only it were that easy!). Superman learned his lesson: it was up to the nations of the world to figure out out to come together to take of the planet and each other.
A final thing I want to praise Gunn for is shooting Superman with style. Richard Donner, director of the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve, knew that is what making a film out of a comic book required. Some of those panels in comic books are little works of art. Superman looks good! A fight looks good! Donner made Superman look cool, and so does Gunn.
I wish Gunn and everyone involved the best of luck in trying to make the DCEU as good as the MCU!

I love the first X-Men movie. Not that I've sat down and thought it out, but it's certainly on the short list of best superhero movies ever.
