I just finished watching a stupid recommended feel good movie from The Guardian which I hated, trying to get the image of tearing the East Wing down, clicked here and thought Thank GOD there’s PREVAIL; will read immediately. 🙏

Give me a minute…. Julia Roberts didn’t do it for me, I had no tears or anything when she lost her guy and she married someone else….and then I felt the Rapture starting to take me…then I saw your piece, I’m up the point Halliburton blah blah blah…. So far, I’m all in…. I’ll get back to you

Halliburton Blah Blah Blah is a good band name.

Okay if I were any kind of screenwriter I would swoop down on top of this like a bald eagle grabbing up a fat juicy fish in its giant razor sharp talons.

We would start production NOW.

I was thinking the same thing!!

I hope it comes true while I’m still on this earth. Better than Oppenheimer for intrigue and suspense!

as a documentary, of course.

This is lovely. Each step is rational and possible. If this were forty years ago, it would already be happening. I'm a lifelong Democrat, with progressive bona fides. Yet the idea of the first woman president coming from the Republican ranks makes sense to me. It feels honest and fair. Liz is basically a good egg. She cares about people. That should be what matters at this stage.

It's possible that most people will read Greg's proposal as some kind of fantasy. But the fantasy world is the one we are inhabiting now, with shit and munition shells raining down from the sky. This vision is a breath of fresh air.

It is going to take something like this to save our country from the shitstorm crashing down on us. I had my hopes in Kamala and the revelation of the bogus results of the hijacked election removing the pretender to the not-throne and all his ilk and filth. This is even better.

Greg Olear's avatar

We missed the boat on that, and also on declaring him ineligible under the 14th Amendment, which he is. Dems depending on norms as usual...

Wishful thnking by Liz Cheney, but not practical. Protests are good, but protesters, Democrats in government, and the news media have not recognized the ongoing criminal felony insurrection by Trump and ICE. What’s happened in America is an insurrection by Trump, his administration, ICE agents, Republicans in Congress, and six justices on the Supreme Court. The insurrection started on January 6, 2021, and was planned in PROJECT 2025 to continue as planned in 2025. The authoritarian illegal war attacking Americans redefined as enemy combatants, is defined as a felony crime in federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2383) in language that is clear and easy to understand:

“Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

Ignorance drives the failure to recognize crimes and enforce the law which threatens democracy. The threat is supported by the weak and corrupt federal legal system. The weak federal legal system includes the corrupt Supreme Court which is now controlled by Trump and the wealthy. Will the weak federal legal system stop Trump? No. The states controlled by Democrats must act to stop Trump using the legal system in the states which is protected and given authorization by the Constitution.

Read my post.

https://williamlmiller.substack.com/p/how-to-stop-trump-republicans-and

From January 6, 2021, through 2024, the weak federal legal system enabled the illegal election of Trump who should have been convicted of the felony crime of insurrection and imprisoned. Trump should have been prevented from being on the ballot in 2024, but Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that prohibited him from holding office was not enforced by the corrupt Supreme Court. In 2025, Trump is exploiting the weak legal system to engage in his many illegal actions such as illegally ignoring court orders, illegally canceling funding authorized and directed for specific purpose by Congress, illegally creating and collecting tariffs, and illegally putting military into city streets with false claims of “fighting crime”. Trump has renamed the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of War, and is raging war against Democrat controlled states and cities.

Don’t listen to the news media to understand what happened to America, and why democracy is not working. “We the people must save democracy.

I agree with your analysis so far and will read more about the details in your substack article linked above. I was one of many citizens who strongly urged our Representatives and Senators to Object to the certification of Electoral College votes for Donald J. Trump and JD Vance on January 6, 2025 by invoking the 14th Amendment Section 3. Only 1/5 of both the House and Senate would have been required to deny certification. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would have then, legitimately, been President and Vice President.

Also, Harris and Walz could have and should have demanded a thorough hand recount and forensic audit of the 2024 election results, which show clear signs of manipulation. In fact, cybersecurity professionals, at least one from a US intelligence agency, in addition to noted academic cybersecurity professionals and statisticians sent a 'duty to warn' letter to the Harris/Walz team about serious irregularities in the election. And yet, NO action was taken. I find this failure to be appalling and completely untenable. Although I understand the reluctance to object, because of the events of January 6, 2021 which were based on the 100% FALSE claims of "voter fraud" promoted by Donald Trump and his MAGA allies, it does NOT excuse ignoring legitimate claims based on actual evidence of election fraud in the 2024 election. The only way to prove this is to conduct hand recounts of ballots and perform thorough forensic audits, which are being undertaken in some states, now.

Our elections are critically important to our American system of government as a Constitutional democratic republic, of, by and for the People, which is dependent upon the consent of the governed. Our voting rights are fundamental rights and are not to be infringed. And yet, they have been infringed in many instances for many citizens. We must center the voter and our voting rights to rectify this serious infringement of our fundamental rights. Verifying the accuracy of our elections via audits is even more important than auditing our financial records, the importance of which no one would dispute. Why do we not do routine audits of our elections? Clearly, we need to do so.

Finally, what you are recommending above is very similar to what Bill Black has also recommended that we do starting now. Here is a link to a recent interview of him by Patrick Lovell in which he explains just how this can be accomplished: https://youtube.com/watch?v=x6RvbxqiFPc&si=UmkuMKLBMOvdasqN .

I highly recommend viewing this interview. Bill Black successfully prosecuted the extensive frauds (over 1,000) perpetrated in the Savings & Loan debacle in the late 1980s and he knows what is required to get the job done and get convictions against great odds and even resistance from both sides of the aisle. Let the whistleblowers speak. There are literally thousands of them, now, who are out of work! They have the receipts; they have the evidence. I agree with you and with Greg Olear that we simply cannot wait for the elusive midterms over a year away. We must act now.

Thank you. I watched the Bill Black interview and his proposal to use legal actions in the states to fight back is great and should be done. My proposal adds legal actions in the states to remove Republicans from Congress and remove four of the corrupt justices on the Supreme Court. Spread the word to get support for both proposals.

Donna McKee's avatar

I will continue to do so. Thanks, William!

Liz is clearly a patriot with high integrity and courage. Wow. I admire her very, very much. BUT... She is still a PROVEN tool of corporations and the oligarchy. Her behaviour before Trump helped Trump capture the GOP. Perhaps she has changed. But be careful of who she has shown herself to be BEFORE Trump.

Unfortunately, this is just an opium-pipe dream, Greg. Rethuglicans are never, ever, going to relinquish power, and will continue to burn this country down to the ground. Sorry to burst this optimistic bubble, I’m usually not this negative, but when Gary Busey’s son Eric can become a billionaire, then all is lost.

Greg Olear's avatar

You’re probably right, but I wanted to at least come up with a workable solution, so I wasn’t just screaming without purpose. Here’s the plan. It’s on them to make it work.

Sara Frischer's avatar

I like solutions and a good plan!

I get it, Greg. It is a worthwhile template for a possible future.

I had a great time at the NYC No Kings rally on Saturday. It gave me hope that the tide is turning, but the depth of depravity on the other side is alarming.

If we just sit back and we don't try any plan that seems to be the best plan of winning, then we just give up to fascism. I don't like giving up without a fight, Our forefathers never gave up when they fought to break free of King George III and in all the subsequent battles our military personnel fought and died for around the world to defend countries against fascist/authoritarian regimes. If nonviolent plans don't work, then the only recourse I can see is a civil war to defend our Democracy, and the way it stands now, I cannot think of another country that would help us after the convicted felon has alienated all our past allies, but at least we would have tried to the bitter end.

We wuldn't be happy but neither will the MAGA supporters because in fascist/authoritarian regimes the government would not want anyone to have weapons to use against the government. I don't know if it is true or false but if Bondi is serious about gun registry, even if it against federal law, when has that stopped the convicted felon or anyone in his administration from following any laws.

Greg Olear's avatar

Oh, I think she's serious. Can't have a dictatorship with all these guns around.

Thank you Greg for making me feel good and hopeful while reading your #Liz48 Plan. One cannot ever lose hope. Your plan makes tremendous sense. But who is going to get Democrats to work together and fight for our nation’s freedoms? So far all I see is infighting. Just the few Dems you mentioned are on the right track. The whole liberal world is on pins and needles looking at what’s happening there. I’m in the UK fearing the intrusion of Elon Must et al in our politics. But for now, at least today, I’ll replay your article in my mind to keep me sane.

Greg Olear's avatar

Thank you. I’m sure this will be ignored like my previous suggestions. But I wanted to offer SOMETHING.

I hope Musk keeps his pasty ass away from Parliament.

We can engage wishful thinking and survival demands wishful thinking is a must. I am not sure which is the bigger fantasy, #Liz48 or the Dems retaking the House in 2026, no less the Senate. Even if the House is obtainable, the behind the scenes machinations of Miller, Vought, your cast of characters, today's truly real villains, will continue unabated. Yes to #Liz48.

Greg Olear's avatar

Part three is wishful thinking. The rest of it would work…if enough people in power decide to do it.

Erapa's avatar

There’s an awful lot of money — and plans for making more of it — that’s been activated by powerful people unlikely to let go of their stronghold. I’m not about to give up but good god, how do we fight the depths of this corruption? Those conflicted on the Supreme Court aren’t about to kindly step aside.

Greg Olear's avatar

We seize their money and put them on the next boat to Vladivostok. How we get there? God only knows.

It’s TUESDAY🎉 LOVE this plan👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Lawrence O’Donnell needs to see this ASAP. #Liz48 (or #Karma48) should be the sign off on all posts. Keep these great ideas coming; trump WILL pass and whatever the timing, we need contingency and prosecution plans.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Greg Olear's avatar

Oh, my mom would love it if he mentioned it.

Bruce Maples's avatar

I’m struck by the possibility of your first step. Mike Johnson is a dead man walking; his own caucus is upset/furious with him. I truly think it would be possible to have him ousted.

The problem then becomes the egos of everyone else. Would the entire room, both Dems and Repubs, be willing to put their own ambitions aside and put Cheney in the catbird seat? Knowing most politicians, probably not. BUT, if it were floated at the same time as the idea of removing Johnson, it might fly.

As for the rest of it, I think it becomes increasingly unlikely. (Well, the impeachment part.) But frankly, just having Cheney as Speaker would be a huge step forward. And who knows? Perhaps the American people can put so much pressure on their electeds that it all can happen.

Greg Olear's avatar

The first step seems inevitable. Let the House argue who should be Speaker, knowing the person would be president eventually. The founders would have been ok with it. It doesn’t have to be Liz.

Old Man's avatar

Agree with the last bit but she is an inspired choice.

I'll follow anyone with a plan. So far, it's like a red light comes on in the cockpit. The pilots, jump seater, and flight attendant who just delivered coffee all stare at it. "Hey, we got a red light." "Yup, sure looks like a red light." "Yeah, something needs to be done. We could crash." "Ya know, that light's probably made of glass and wired to an electrics buss." "No, I heard it's plexi." "Yeah, I agree". "Oh jeez, we're definity gonna crash." "Look, the damn light's got dirt on it." "That's ridiculous, why would they use plexi?" "Wow, really black dirt." "No, the manual says it's glass." "Can you dim that thing? It's keeping me awake..."

But now, "Hey, it's the engine-fail light. Let's try a restart! I think this is the start sequence..."

Greg Olear's avatar

This is a perfect analogy. We’re about to crash into a mountain ffs. GOP is a death cult, Schumer Jeffries are in denial.

Sara Frischer's avatar

Greg Marvelous. Since January, my BP went up into Hypertension #2. It took 6 months for this to happen. I bet if this plan went into place I could cut some of the "increasing medicines" I am taking to alleviate this. Thank you.

Greg Olear's avatar

Omg and you’re reading all these dark, depressing books! Maybe you should watch March of the Penguins to cleanse your palate.

Sara Frischer's avatar

Greg I mix it up, I detach and draw in a park which doesn’t have wifi, limit how much time on the net…. You always have good recommendations, I’ll try March of the Penguins. The Medication(s) are working… it’s trump world It just disagrees with me…..

Greg Olear's avatar

That was the first feel-good thing I could think of off the top of my head. That and WALL-E. I'm glad it's working!

Sara Frischer's avatar

I like your Liz#48 Plan. Brings a good smile. She has integrity. All’s well..Thank you!! Greg Nature. Two days ago the Giant Heron who frequents the park flew right past me in the very small gorge I am drawing. That brought an oo and ahh. It didn't realize I was there.

But I must add, The Brothers by Stephen Kinzer about the Dulles Brothers is excellent. What a disgusting pair working as Secretary of State and head of the CIA…

Bravo Greg!!! Considering the massive repugnant egos, I can imagine non PedoPoopgatePrez politicos in both parties seeing hope to preserving their jobs by forcing the changes you’ve brought up. The social truth is that Liz can be trusted. No one in the current quisling administration can be trusted so oust, prosecute and punish them all. Today is a good day to begin.
