What is it in our psyche that makes us so unwilling to confront the deeper truths about ourselves, preferring - regardless of the cost to human wellbeing and happiness - to cling to a slick, superficial facade of lies? The massive, ongoing coverup by our administrators, intelligence services and press regarding the monster at the helm of our nation is mindboggling. How - if we pretend to be one that is governed by law - can any of this be tolerated?
Has the incessant bombardment of advertising to which we are subjected so conditioned us that we can no longer see the substance for the skin?
It's astonishing how effective the state-owned legacy media, a techbro-owned social media, and a news system set up, like ChatGPT, to play to our biases, can be. For me, I think it's been helpful that I've always loathed TV news, hated being spoon-fed information, even if it's something I agree with. The tedium of the news cycle on these news channels literally makes me crazy. I only watch on election night or when buildings are collapsing in NYC.
I forgot to mention the advertising. How quickly gambling has become normalized, for one thing. So dangerous.
