It will remain, I am afraid, a quiet place.

Well, you're right, however, the people that supposedly represent us have to, at some point, DO something, and stop the nonsense of appealing to the "better angels" in the Republican Party because there are apparently very few left. Bipartisanship is currently dead. We can make all the noise we want, but we're still stymied by the fact that the only REAL power we have is elections, and Republicans are doing a very good job of trying to see to it that even those don't really matter.

If I hear “better angels” one more time !!!! “Tribal” and “those progressives”…. I was the Poor People Campaign on Tuesday and Rev Barber said it best…’there’s no such thing as “moderate” when it comes to voter’s rights!’

If Garland even knows Pink Floyd, I would be surprised. However Def, I honor your choice of music.

A quiet killer… didn’t people refer to Mueller in similar terms? Look where that got us. Dems need to kick him in the ass & encourage him to be a bit louder

And just like that, here he is today speaking to us...

From the substack Shero by Amee Vanderpool “it is worth noting that Garland has held his position for several months. The idea that he did not have previous knowledge about these previously undisclosed subpoenas and the subsequent gag order placed on those involved seems far-fetched” https://shero.substack.com/p/gag-orders-subpoenas-and-data-oh/comments

This is exactly what I’m referring to. That he is suddenly speaking to us is less a sign of action than it is a sign of appeasement over the public knowledge of what happened. Dems & Biden’s admin in particular need to get serious about this crap.

Fuck appeasement. Garland needs to enroll in Badass 101. I want everyone in the Trump Fuckery Titanic, prosecuted with extreme prejudice. Humiliations, Fines and Prison, maximum sentences, not running concurrently. I want bodies.

Great observation Lib! Too harsh.......no.

Garland. Investigate all Trump Fuckery rats. Get some fangs and do your job, which is our job and bring down every trump clown in your own DOJ and prosecute with extreme prejudice, criminal congress MAGA billies. NOW.

Media silence (aka "objective reporting") was as loud as the trump's bombast. In fact, they megaphoned his garbage. Every noise he made was covered ad nauseam without any balancing commentary or interviews.

That is STILL happening, right now, today. He's been out of office almost five months and we're still hearing about every little thing that T**** and his crew does, for reasons I don't understand, except that apparently, he's still "good copy." Republicans are still following his lead, and Dems are still wringing their hands over the lack of bipartisanship. Meanwhile, the time until the 2022 elections (and the ability to get ANYTHING done) is fast slipping away. But it seems that all the media cares about is, "what outrage did T**** say today?" or "here are the odds that he'll run again in 2024...." It's very disheartening, and extremely disgusting.

This is true. Poor Eric Boehlert is kept busy.

Terrible and true. What's that song by the Eagles? Dirty Laundry? And all the media wants to do is dance dance dance.

I have lost faith...first, Mueller would save us, then Barr/Intelligence Committee would save us, and now supposedly Garland? I fear that the rot is so endemic that Garland et. al are afraid exposing it topples democracy on its own. Hoping I'm wrong, but believe we're screwed. Confronting MAGA requires Tim Ryan like bellowing, not quiet, albeit competent, determination.

To be fair, he IS starting to talk. And I don't think he's corrupt or anything. Maybe he'll learn. He wants to be good at the job, and he cares, which counts for a lot.

Might be gender bias but I have more faith in Tish James and Fani Willis...happy to be wrong.

Garland needs Fangs to stop all of this leftover Trump Fuckery, criminality.

"That’s three times in the last five years that we’ve been told to have faith in the system, to believe that justice is coming, to understand that this stuff has to happen quietly, and yadda yadda yadda. And three times the hard work of the good guys has been neutralized in the court of public opinion because of the silence.

MAGA is fucking loud. All the time. You don’t combat your neighbor blasting Slayer through giant PA speakers by putting your own music on mute."

What's that Brene Brown saying, "In the absence of data, we will always make up stories." Seems like we've been struggling to make sense of the silence for far too long. I don't know about you, but the stories I have been "making up" do not give me much peace or comfort these days.

Good piece, Greg. I understand the frustration, and I'm frustrated too. Tish James announced she was investigating Trump - why can't Garland? But on the flip side, I know when they do an investigation like this, they start at the bottom and work their way up. They're busting all these idiots that took part in the insurrection, so it's logical to think they're working their way up the idiot food chain to get to the guys who gave the orders, and Trump will be last in that order. It's human nature to think, when you don't know what's being done, that nothing is being done. Still, between the White House and the AG, it seems they could tell us something and like you said, reassure us. I want fucking justice.

The Investigation could roll downhill as easily or better. Their silence isn't golden

Remember when Brennan and Rosenberg (Rosenberg later apologized) gave Barr the benefit of the doubt. Remember when Garland cried talking about the horrors of the Holocaust his family endured? We all know Biden’s tragic history with loss. Many Americans literally have experienced similar personal tragedies. What the fk is happening? After years of the horrors of Trump and his gangster family and other capos the trauma endures. The depth of fear and trauma that is expanding by Republicans while Biden (so many of us supported him and the Democrats, including former Republicans) and Garland and Democrats continue to suggest “we got this” while telling us not to look back and telling us “bi-partisanship is back - we got this!” (Manchin & Synema aka Jill Stein). Americans are freaking the fk out AGAIN! What is happening?????
