But Jeffrey was "smarter than Einstein and hung like a horse" thus universally liked. Or at least that's what I was told in relation to my Iran-Contra research. Besides, it was Adnan Kashoggi's money Epstein stole

Greed can buy you a place in hell. It can convince someone they are untouchable. I think a lot of factors determine the ultimate outcome of a person’s choices, but greed (of money, sex, power) will put a person’s depravity on full display. The interesting thing about Tom Ripley, is that he did not enter his situation as a master manipulator. Rather, all the people ( with no souls), shaped him into who they wanted him to be and he chose to play the part assigned to him - like Gatsby, to his ultimate destruction.

All those who live in a world above the fray fail to recognize they are the fray. Thanks, Greg.

"So we beat on, boats against the current, never quite able to arrive at the truth."

Even when you were there and the truth smacked you in the face, all you can do is CREATE... a DIY healing doll (complete with instructions) and an illustration called Hung by the Hose! 🎨

This reads like a novel. How tragic that it is all true. Not "stranger than fiction" but WORSE than fiction!

Powerful piece, especially repeating - they had to know, it was impossible for them not to know - in a similar cadence to a Southern preacher

Great piece! All of this and more is available to anyone who chooses to look. Tell me why the main stream media doesn’t pursue the information.

You’re a marvelous writer, the comparison of Epstein to Jay Gatsby is brilliant.

One question: Did I misread or did you directly imply that Bill Barr’s father did not hire Epstein to teach at Dalton?

Mesmerizing.

Post script. June 2022. She was just sentenced to 20 years--for all practical purposes, life. I wonder if she was in part his victim as well as his accomplice.

From all appearances, it looks for all the world like Epstein's money came from blackmail - it surely didn't come from investing, as no one can find any investments he ever made, nor can they find anyone on Wall Street with whom he traded. (A trait he shared with Bernie Madoff - but that's another rant).

However, there's a problem or two with the idea that his cash came from /kompromat/:

First being the very improbability that a man such as he would blackmail rich heterosexual men for decades without blackmailing a single rich homosexual man - where are the rent boys?

Second, and most inexplicably, is the fact that Rule Number One of blackmailing rich pukes is that the pukes have to believe that killing you will make their problem get far worse, instead of going away.

I've never met Prince Andrew or Bill Gates or Les Wexner or any of the most obvious targets of Epstein's blackmail, but surely there's at least one of them who'd rather have had him killed than to have paid him tens of millions of dollars. Someone would have killed him years ago, if they didn't believe that killing him would make their problems far worse.

As Kipling wrote: The thing about paying the Danegeld is that once you've paid it, you'll ne'er be rid of the bloody Dane. So you pay him ten million dollars to not release the video of you with the young Czech girl - What happens next year, when he wants ten million more? Do you pay him ten million a year FOREVER? Or do you pay a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who can put some Polonium in Epstein's Long Island Iced Tea?

If you pay that guy, it's not going to stop the video from coming out - indeed, it's gonna make it MORE likely the video will come out.

Well, he's dead - where's the kompromat?
