All excellent questions but expecting any Democrats to have the spine to ask them is foolish. Oh, they may ask a few embarrassing questions after a 5 minute campaign speech, but they will not ask anything tough enough to do any real damage.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure about that. Our MA Senator Warren is known to ask a few tough questions.

These are uncharted waters. I think that, for Dems especially, asking tough questions IS a campaign speech. That's the leadership people want and will vote for. But one never went broke underestimating the spine of a politician...

I will do that. Liz needs a good laugh today.

Excellent questions Greg. I’ll get these to my Senators. Thank you, as always.

I'm sorry, I just can't. You put so much effort into that piece, but I just can't. Thank you for your perseverance. Carry on.

Just a personal note: I don't know which of these dangerous clowns are worse, but at the moment, my wrath is directed to RFK, Jr. Born two months premature, I have a wimpy immune system. Without precautions, I catch every bug that floats by. My tough, RFK Jr-loving friend from FL rarely catches even a sniffle. Born lucky. But we shopped at Boston's crowded Christmas Market.

Now, she's on her 5th day "sick in bed" in my guest room. I'm fine. Whether she has Covid or flu, I don't know. She won't take a Covid test, believes Covid is a hoax. (Thank you, RFK, Jr.) I got my flu and Covid vaxs and wore my mask in the crowd. For her protection, she bowed three times to RFK Jr. I despise the evil man for every person his propaganda has caused to become ill and/or dead. How much more harm will he do now?

Expand full comment

I’m with you, Maureen. Personally, RFKJR scares me the most. None of us, including physicians, will be able to trust anything coming out of HHS. Doctors should be speaking out en masse.

The next pandemic, he'll be telling everyone that we don't need medical research; we should just take garlic and we'll be fine.

Ps—You are a better person than I am—I could never remain friends with a MAGA individual, much less take care of one.

I hate how Trump has destroyed families and friendships with his overt evil.

He's the scariest and has the potential to do the most harm. But I also think he's the least likely of the three to get confirmed. Why are Republicans going to stick their neck out for a Brain Worm Democrat? It only takes a handful to torpedo the nomination. I think he's toast.

But then, I thought Kamala would win, so what do I know?

As to your friend: it's crazy. There are people in my very blue town who displayed pro Trump/RFk banners that said MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN. Boggles the mind...

Question for all Trump nominees:

"Since president-elect Trump's obvious intent is to cripple the government so that it can no longer function properly, please explain to the American people in detail how this will somehow benefit them."

The follow up, of course, who else will it benefit? Which foreign enemies?

How is not a revolutionary action designed to do the opposite of what they say?

Brilliant questions. I especially like your Tulsi questions about the cult she belongs/belonged to. When she ran for President, my friends in Hawaii were all over this with warnings. She's not an UNknown quantity, she's fully KNOWN and her friends in the Kremlin are laughing all the way to the bank.

Right? Framing it as a question is a good way to talk about it. Get it on the record. Most people have no clue about SIF.

For Patel, I would add: Since your testimony to the Grand Jury on the topic of trump's declassification of documents is covered by a grant of immunity, did or did you not repeat, under oath, what you said in public about seeing documents declassified by trump without leaving trace in the records or the memories of those who involved in the declassification documents. Do you think that a President can declassify any documents just by saying so, and leaving no trace? If so, how does anyone ELSE know the documents are declassified? [I'm paraphrasing here: the actual questioner should repeat what he DID say publicly.]

And: do you agree with the requirements of the Presidential Records Act? Can you tell us what it says about a president's ability to designate a document "personal" where he did not create it, but someone else in the government did?

And: would you override (or recommend that the president override) the determination by the intelligence agencies that someone did not qualify for a security clearance based on their history? What is your understanding of the purpose of security clearances?

Your perseverance in resisting what is coming is admirable and I thank you for your efforts. I am in a catatonic state and substacks like this one help to shake me out of catatonia. Sadly when I momentarily awaken from my stupor my only thought is of having fired my one bullet, my vote and it missed, what next? How does one get through the next four years? My hope, self preservation kicks in. Sadly that only helps me and my immediate family, what to do to help everyone else? Catatonia is back!

Expand full comment

Thanks, Old Man. Is it catatonia, or just resting for the fight we know is ahead? I've spent a lot of time laying on my couch these last few weeks. It's impossible to be vigilant and on alert for years. We all have to take breaks. We need our mental health. That's not to say things don't look bleak now, because they do.

Expand full comment

Indeed a break is an essential part of preparing to fight. Just wish I can be confident that the rest will lead to intelligent actions of resistance and fighting back. My favorite Christmas song is "In the Bleak Mid-Winter" by Gustav Holst, sung by Bryn Trefel, sadness with hope, the last stanza aptly describes my ennui, him being the cause of resistance and my heart the best I can give.
