Yikes! Given your prescience I hope we heed your call to stop Elon “before it’s too late”!

USAID appears to be dead. For millions of people in developing nations around the world, it may already be too late.

GAH to all of it.

But despite the truth, you did make me actually chuckle. "(John of Patmos does not make clear if the first beast he saw had Kotex on the side of its wounded-but-miraculously-healed head.)"

Thanks for the essay. I hope we prevail.

Thanks, Julie. We have to laugh. No matter how rich and powerful they get, they will never be anything other than joke humans we laugh at.

I have a hard time believing that his star won’t soon fade among the MAGATS. He is possibly even more charmless than the impossible trumpster. I’ve been wrong about this before, sadly. But wtf is in the mind of people who pledge allegiance to these idiots? What will it take to awaken the alternative mob?

Expand full comment

He doesn't need charm. He's in power already, and he answers to no one. Trump will go around shooting off his mouth while Elon operates the woodchipper. Yesterday that's exactly what happened.

I have seen one indication that any of them are beginning to see the light. Fox News will keep them lathering up for more of the same and cheering it on.

I have this fear that Musk will stop paychecks on all court personnel, on the grounds that the judiciary is a waste of money.

I like to think there's a critical mass of important, connected people who, if cut off from pay all at once, WILL know what to do about it. Like, sacking many dozens of FBI is probably not the smartest idea for Team Nazi.

He will win, but when? And will it be too late?

Being Canadian I am only somewhat removed from the problem. Regrettably I don’t see a way out of this without civil “intervention”. The legal system is too slow and/or corrupt, governing bodies support the problem or cannot be effectual, and the communications to the masses are propaganda supporting the Problem.

My hope, Carl, is that this will rouse your countrymen to reject Poilievre. I was afraid he would get in easily, and I don't know that that will be the case anymore.

Doing our best to compete with Tiedrich on longs series of descriptive phrases, are we? All accurate, though I like the earlier "Muscovite" best.

On Radical Left Wing Globalists: There is a statute setting forth the goals of USAID in detail that has been on the books since 1962. 22 U.S. Code § 2151 - Congressional findings and declaration of policy. Of course, JFK was clearly radical left wing, in asking us not to be selfish and asking what our country can "do for you.".

My favorite part of the Code regarding USAID is 22 U.S. Code § 2151–2 - Actions to improve the international gender policy of the United States Agency for International Development (https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/22/2151-2). It is worth reading if only for the number of times "gender" is mentioned. (12). It was signed into law on January 9, 2019 by guess who (who now thinks it was Obama, must have been)

Elon hasn't been able to figure out how to take down the US Code from the Internet, but I'm sure he's trying

Of course, a lot of trump voters would welcome the Apocalypse and accompanying Rapture. The Onion has a great picture of Chick Fil-A being raptured.

I'll take on Tiedrich any day of the week and twice on Sunday. ; )

In Revelation, they Rapture all the people on the list, and everyone else gets to hang for a few centuries. So if they really do come and take away all the Mike Johnsons, the world might be a lovelier place...

Yeah, I've often thought that. Meanwhile the raptured Catholics and Protestants can spend the afterlife in an eternal 30 years wars, since it isn't really clear what KIND of Christian gets to rule Paradise.

Elon the Musk, the most stupid person on the planet has one objective, to sit at the top of the Tower of Babel, playing video games. What is so paradoxical is his tower, after his disruptions are complete, is a tower of shit. The only sensible analysis says that the real evil villain sits in the Kremlin, Elon a useful idiot, nothing more. Vlad the Impaler will have completed his life's work. I wonder why it took him so long to understand that true destruction comes not from nuclear power raining down from the outside, rather a few well placed foils within the enemy, stoking a nation of citizens fighting amongst themselves, oblivious to the destruction of their way of life.

The ultimate question, will We the People figure this out in time to stop Vlad from achieving his goal, the same as most Bond villians, world domination.

We need to go on the attack. It's really that simple. We've been at war for a decade now, and too many people don't realize it.

Does Trump still have that massive, fragile ego? It seems as though this situation, which I actually heard reported on the mainstream news last night, just needs a little bug in Trump's ear that Elmo is getting MUCH MORE press than Trump is, and he and his merry band of incels will be gone within a week.

And more importantly, where is Congress in all of this? How is it that Elon Musk, an unelected immigrant from South Africa, is suddenly privy to the Treasury records of every American adult? How are 19–24-year-olds able to work with records only previously available to view in a SCIF? I see this morning that there's already been a lawsuit filed on behalf of several plaintiffs, but again, WHERE TF is Congress? Are they so consumed with justifying the confirmations of worse bad actors in key positions in the government that they're unaware of Musk's shenanigans? Are they completely helpless? WTF?

Expand full comment

Until this situation with Musk is resolved (in a good way for us), Congress should not confirm any of Trump's appointees. None. Keep your leverage.

So, basically we're trying to outlive the revelations.

White supremacy > DEI

The hard core element of the Koch's support of the John Birchers was white supremacy, oligarchy in control like in the Ole South, governments secondary. When is a tribe not a tribe, but tribal none the less. McLuhan warned about that.

There are a number of MOCs out in the streets at rallies, which is good. I don't know, at the moment, what they can do in terms of sand in the gears, but I'd like to think they will. I saw that Schatz, the Hawaii senator, is doing the thing he can do to grind the Senate to a halt.

The problem is that there is no enforcement arm. ICE is busy picking day laborers in Home Depot parking lots. The FBI is gutted. Merrick Garland already killed the DOJ. All we have is state troopers. Presumably Elon will stay out of NY.

Those kids fill me with rage. Absolute rage. What a fucking insult. Like in The Wire, when Omat gets killed by the middle school kid.

Elon clearly owns Trump. Gaza will be an Israeli beachfront. Netanyahu will kill the remaining Palestinians if they are not transferred elsewhere. This absolutely is a coup. Since the mainstream media has complied is it time to start another country wide citizens postie campaign. In public places? Obviously we must keep haranguing Congress to do their G.D. job and mass protests- in body armor.

There are Congress people doing stuff. Will it be enough? I don't know.

My guess is that there's a sort of omerta in Congress, where people know Lindsey's stuff, and he knows their stuff, and it keeps it all quiet. We need that to end.

A lot of MAGA folks receive Social Security (both for retirement and for disability), Medicare, Medicaid, and other government assistance. What do you think is going to happen when those checks don't show up? Elon and DJT may meet the same fate as Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife Elena who ended up in front of a firing squad.

Trump is already in deep decline, both mentally and physically, and may not even know what's going on or care. Elon, Stephen Miller, and others are running the show. Poor hapless JD Vance doesn't have the cojones to do anything, let alone invoking the 25th Amendment. Trump didn't even want him as VP. He wanted ND Governor Doug Burgum, who briefly ran for President, because Burgum wouldn't overshadow him, like Elon is doing now.

Ultimately, it may come down to the courts. Fortunately, Biden nominated 252 federal judges, the majority of whom are women and/or BIPOC. But without enforcement, a judgement may not mean much.

The other "solution" would be a rouge CIA or FBI agent solving the problem. Or maybe I have watched too many episodes of The Blacklist, where there was a secret organization called The Cabal, which consisted of high-ranking government officials and other who wanted to destabilize the US. We could certainly use someone like Raymond Reddington right now.

I like your thinking. I remember when Ceaușescu got killed, and the papers opining that the violence did not bode well for Romania's democratic future. Well, that's the country that through out a rigged election. Here? Not so much. And they put Andrew Tate in jail. Ugh.

The problem is: who will enforce the laws? On a federal level, there's no one not crooked. I don't mean the individuals but the agencies themselves.
