Excellent post, Greg! I, for one, am very happy we moved to CA 48 years ago. Yes, homes are astronomical, state taxes ridiculous, but we have a progressive governor, not that he hasn’t made blunders, but he hasn’t allowed killing children a “sport” in our state. I will listen to the podcast later on but in the meantime, I have little faith.
Faith? What’s that? In a world where innocents perish at the hands of madmen - trump’s Covid victims, Putin’s slaughter, Republican heinous gun promotion - without accountability or justice, I find little comfort in knowing that regional courts respect the rule of law. My husband and both daughters are attorneys - I get it; this is important. But damn, this psychotherapist fears we may perish under the overwhelming weight of helplessness unless we restore liberty and justice for all.
This is the best succinct description of cryptocurrencies that I've read. Its supporters want a form of chaos that favors easy profit without actual hard work. This libertarian idea of unfettered individual freedom flies in the face of what people actually want—a relative degree of order and predictability.
Beautiful encouraging words; thank you. Greg. But this American at age 70+ has entirely lost faith in this archaic and smelly iteration of the Supreme Court. Shit rolls downhill and we’ve not yet begun to reap all the damage this it has promulgated.
I had a REALLY hard time with putting out our flag on Friday for the Memorial Day weekend. REALLY difficult! But, in the end I did it out of respect to the veterans that gave their lives for this country that has now become just another "shithole" country. Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Veterans Day that flag will be out and flying. As for the rest of the flag holidays, I don't know. Maybe not this year.
I did have quite a laugh when the Ponzi scheme of cryptocurrency took a massive tumble last week though. Anyone injecting themselves into that BS deserves what they get. Cryptocurrency is even more mythical than our own currency, if that's even possible.
Thank you, Greg. I was not aware of the FDR-gold thing before. Very interesting.
However, Roe reversal is ALL about VOTER SUPPRESSION in disguise
The Red states are utterly desperate to become MORE RED to cement old white man power in them, and in the undemocratic Senate.
Figuring out ways to get the young and liberal voters in Red states to leave does just that
And if you think this is bad, just wait until they BAN ALL BIRTH CONTROL in Red states
ALL of the bad thing happening in the USA right now are due to only 67% of Americans bothering to vote.
In spite of extensive Google searching, I cannot find a figure for: What percentage of registered Democrats bothered to vote in 2020.

I can think of one institution that should disappear...the Senate.
And the Electoral College, of course. But it's really not an institution. It's imaginary bullshit.

Speaking of trust, it really bothers me that the Supreme Court seems to have zero accountability, especially now that they no longer represent the will of the majority. I stumbled upon a Senate hearing that discusses SCOTUS accountability; fascinating if you have some time to listen: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/meetings/an-ethical-judiciary-transparency-and-accountability-for-21st-century-courts
Notable that Sheldon Whitehouse chairs this subcommittee.
