Isn’t our past perfidious pulpit and aren’t his soldiers of sedition complimented with that MAGA tag..?

I would never claim to know what they find complimentary, but it seems to be so!

An impeachment trial, we never really received . We needed to impeach all those traitors.. Trump, Cruz, Hawley, Boebert, etc... All the destructive members of government that participated that day.

What we did get is a second rate persecution of the lawyers, entertainers, members of the mob that day... Lin wood, Sidney Powell, Rudy, Jenna etc and of Tucker Carlson.

All politicans remain IMMUNE. Has ONE gotten in trouble over the insurrection?

No, and this is the part that is most infuriating. If there is evidence enough to charge them, charge them. Then, vote when the traitor senators aren't there. Even the George Santos and Bob Melendez stuff seems like they just picked the lowest-hanging fruit and called it a bounty.

Lowest hanging fruit is absolutely correct!

I know this is not at all important, but it REALLY pisses me off that they defiled the memory of Laura Branigan like that.

Great review! I wonder if the Doge’s actions in the 4th Crusade, somehow influenced the reluctance of Venetians to come to the timely aid of Constantine XI when Sultan Mehmed II attacked and conquered Constantinople in 1453. (The eponymous book by Roger Crowley, is a great read.) Regardless, as someone who lives in DC, I’d like to point out that if it wasn’t for the DC Police, things had a much better chance of going south on Jan 6th. DC doesn’t have that big a police force to begin with for a lot of reasons. Nevertheless, 850 DC officers, more than 1/4 of the department, went to the aid of the Capitol Police. They don’t get the recognition they deserve.

Ooo, I have to check out that book. I wonder if the Doge figured that by then, Constantinople was already so far fallen that it was not worth defending?

In college we were all terrified by DC Metro. They got the job done!

Excellent essay today, Greg. Your writing always sustains me in this era of absolute madness.

According to his Substack today, Rick Wilson's house got swatted last night about 3 AM. Everyone is OK, another MAGAt plot failed, as usual. Now, Rick is offering a $25K reward for the identification of the swatter, which, because they're dumb as bricks, has probably been bragging about it on X-chan or some other space. I think Rick Wilson is one of their bête noires because he continues to speak out in public, and heads up the Lincoln Project, which has been, and will be, more effective than any Democratic candidate's campaign. He tells the truth, is a former Republican, and WILL NOT shut up for any reason. The swatting has only made him double-down. That annoys them fiercely because neither the MAGAts themselves nor Trump will ever reach the heights of his effectiveness in bringing the case of that rat-bastard to people everywhere, and the entire MAGA enterprise is LOADED with cowards..

Thanks, Steve. I appreciate that.

This spike in swatting perplexes me. Are police departments this fucking stupid? Judge Tonya Chutkin got swatted last night. A fucking judge! And the cops don't know where she lives? And that, duh, it's obvious bullshit? It really doesn't give me much faith in law enforcement.

I hope these swatting incidents will cause restraint by the officers to avoid shooting innocent people.

One thing that’s new is we are now being told to consider arrested rioters as “political prisoners” or “hostages” and Trump is running on a platform to pardon the ones who have been convicted. The disinformation, promoted by Russian trolls, is scary.

Yes, by Elise Stefanik, who wants so badly to be Trump's VP. These people should be locked in a room with no ventilation and a pile of Trump's used diapers. That's my Dante-style punishment for them.

My wife is good with acronyms. I think I will ask her to craft one that more accurately describes Trumpstafarians as something entirely antithetical to things American. Of course, if one is not ANTIFA, then what…?
