I’ve enjoyed all your writing this year. So glad I found you on substack after I left Twitter. The five eight has become our Friday night routine. Thanks for everything.

You have done a fantastic job of keeping us informed, with deep dives into subjects that most of us probably wouldn’t know that much about. This has been a year of incredible corruption and awareness of past corruption. Your summary here was an excellent reminder, and I’d be lying if I said I could bear to read every single word and relive the disgust. But please keep up the good work. I love your beautiful writing, even when it’s about ugly subjects!

LOVE the year-end review! For my money, your deep dive into Mike Johnson's "ambitions" still ranks at the top. The others were excellent; Leonard Leo, Red Caesar, etc., but the Mike Johnson column distills it into one. All of the freaky weirdos that are looking for not only the Rapture, and the United States of Gilead in the meantime, seem to be personified in Mike Johnson. It's all right there!

GREAT year of writing, and I suspect 2024 is already writing itself. Substack is one of the few places left, IMO, that a person can get good analysis of what's going on in the world without having to RESORT (because that's what it's become) to the MSM. I will be here for it! Happy New Year, Greg!

Thanks for the reminder of why I subscribe.

Rube-i-Con does indeed sound like a gathering of these nitwits.

Heather Cox Richardson in her piece today reminds us of the despair faced by colononists in the December after the Declaration of Independence was signed. Our fledgling nation was facing not only an enemy army but also a great oppressor, a monarch who by another name was a dictator.

Amidst this gloom Thomas Paine wrote '“I call not upon a few, but upon all: not on this state or that state, but on every state: up and help us; lay your shoulders to the wheel; better have too much force than too little, when so great an object is at stake. Let it be told to the future world, that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet and to repulse it.”

Today Democracy is again at stake. Today despair is rampant, I see too many too tired and too downtrodden, too many ready to give up. Greg's recollection of things past must not add to the despair, rather as Paine said embolden us to take up the cause of good over evil. This must occur at the grass roots level and grow upwards culminating in 90 million true Americans using the supreme power they wield,,VOTING for good versus evil.

Our forefathers determination and forebearance gave us a more perfect union, we must not abandon their dream, rather keep the dream not only alive but well positioned so that those to come after have the same opportunities the like of Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Adams created for us, all men are equal, entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Make 2024 the year when our greatest weapon, the vote spoke volumes of the inherent good in US citizens.

On Covid: “What I will never understand is how the reporters interviewing Donald Trump and Jared Kushner don’t constantly—and angrily!—bring up the fact that these two motherfuckers murdered a million Americans, and how most people therefore don’t realize that they are guilty of crimes against humanity.” They are still killing people! My neighbor, and his neighbor, both Trumpers, still buying the shit that spews from his mouth, and because of that, they refuse to get vaccinated. One of the neighbor’s wife, suffering from dementia, recently went into assisted care, where in Texas, Abbot made it a law that healthcare staff don’t need to be vaccinated(he’s a whole other story). Anyway, the wife and the neighbor and other family members that visited her, all came down with Covid. The wife died. The husband became so weak, he fell in his home. Called my neighbor to help him get up off the floor. My neighbor, old himself, called the fire department to help. Three emergency vehicles arrive at the home to get this neighbor off the floor. All of this because tfg politicized Covid pandemic and vaccine! So...my neighbor is telling me all this. When I mention I’m due for my Covid vaccine update, he tells me not to and how terrible it is and the truth is soon to come out. At that moment, all I could think about was how tfg continues to kill people! HE MUST NEVER RETURN TO THE WH, EVER!

'ED O'KEEFE: The president is set to meet with Vladimir Putin at the G-20. Would you meet with him if you're president?

SEN. HARRIS: It depends. I mean listen, I believe that we do have to have open lines of communication, and I will never foreclose that as- as- as a viable option. But let's be clear about this president's relationship with Russia, the press- the current president of the United States has taken the word of the Russian president over the word of the American intelligence community. The current president of the United States has taken then- on the issue of- of the election in 2016. The current president of the United States takes the word of a North Korean dictator over the word of the American intelligence community when it comes to an American student who was tortured and later died. The current president of the United States takes the word of a Saudi prince over the word of the American intelligence community when it comes to a journalist who was assassinated, a journalist who has an American credentials. So, I would not do that. I trust the intelligence community--'

Of course it’s since come to light that Clarence on a return plane flight to DC, bent some pol’s ear with a “threat” to resign along with another right wing justice whom we all know and love, if they weren’t paid more money. While I would call that extortion, it’s apparently ok with John Roberts if ol’ Clarence stays put. As for the #2 guy, well we know where his butt is staying as well. The Roberts court has been for sale for years-perhaps even before Roberts got the nod. As for Leonard “the arachnid”Leo, he is long overdue for a mighty wind to tear his web to Hell and carry him with it. As hard as Sen. Whitehouse has tried to bring all this out, there is no appetite in the Senate to tangle with such blatant corruption.

Thanks for the rest of the highlights Greg. I’m going to have to spend some time catching up on those I missed the first time around.

Let’s hope the New Year brings enlightenment to all in need of it.
