The real irony is that the Federal Government WOULDN'T HAVE TO make these laws to protect people if it weren't for assholes like Kevin Roberts and his cronies. Thank you for having a stomach strong enough to read through this truly evil manifesto and expose it for what it is, a declaration of hate from the true elitists. What psychological damage did this guy Roberts sustain that would cause this kind of extremist conversion? By the way, I recently learned that Thomas Jefferson kept meaning to free his slaves, but his lavish lifestyle meant that, he couldn't afford to, and they were all sold upon his death to pay his debts. Probably one of Roberts's heroes.

Exactly! I feel like the government should be protecting the most vulnerable members of society, not demonizing them and depriving them of civil rights. Not only that, but this is a value I learned from going to Catholic church every Sunday growing. It's so weird to me that these radical Catholic guys think homosexuality is bad at all, let alone a sin so bad it requires us to shelve the "love thy neighbor" stuff. I just don't understand it.

Jefferson, writing so eloquently about freedom and equality and owning, and raping, slaves. Horrible.

Thank you Greg for all of this information! I am grateful to have lived in a time before these a-holes took over everything. When my husband and I started working on creating our family, our first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. There was no question as to my medical care I needed a D and C to get the dead fetus out. Eventually we had 2 kids. I got my tubes tied shortly after again no fight from the establishment. These people need to mind their own damn business and let people live!

Thanks, Christine. These people don't understand what abortion actually is. They truly believe it's babykilling. That's a fairy tale they were told. It has no basis in reality. Denying a woman with an ectopic pregnancy an abortion is no different than denying chemo to a guy with cancer.

This shit keeps me awake at night. I have 200 pages left to read of Project 2025. If the GQP win, we will see A.L.E.C ratify the Constitution. Leonard Leo has spent millions grooming members of the Supreme Court. He won. Next, Sinclair Broadcasting will take over MSM media. They have a plan to turn America into Hungary. Agent Orange is their lapdog. They know how to feed his ego and his bank accounts. He's nothing. His only use will be 'sign here'. Our enemy is not at our borders. It's already here. It's called the Republican party. This is treason.

All of this, exactly, Lisa. Some days I look up from the laptop and think, "Is this really happening? How can this be happening?" But here we are.

Right now, all these media companies are laying people off, losing money. I'm not sure how that can happen, when all people do all day is look at media.

The GOP are traitors. It's a party of traitors.

The fact they aren't even hiding or deluding their verbiage anymore around these issues says to me, they have confidence in their attempt to takeover the government. This is a war on women. If you're white, Christian, wealthy and male they got your back. The rest of us can go fuck ourselves.

The fucking media better wake the fuck up. They are failing us again. Fucking American Oligarchs. I'm pissed!! This is nuts!

Thank you for doing this work. I appreciate it.

Shiver me timbers!! Project 2025 has revealed itself as a deeply DEEPLY religious cult wanting to take over our nation. I had read a few pages of it but hadn’t delved into it because I wanted to protect myself. Good ole Leonard Leo and now his lapdog, Kevin Roberts, intend to dismantle every single piece of legislation set forth from Day One. It’s sick! It’s maniacal! It’s Steve Bannon+ with oozing pustules who have played the “system” by defying our laws. It’s a large FU by the extremists who have nothing better to do with their money but wreak havoc on the rest of us. Thank goodness for Sheldon Whitehouse and for Tom who have gone down the rabbit hole to dig these truths out! That motherfucker, Leo, has set up 40 shell companies where money is laundered over and over again, all stated as “non-profit”, which means no taxes are paid! This is what you call the Big Scam, all in the name of religion…mostly Catholicism. Let’s pray.

I now, it's mind-blowing to think about. But here we are.

It irks me, too, that these extremists clothe themselves in mainstream Catholicism. Mainstream Catholics don't believe in this crap, not in my experience.

Many thanks Greg for giving us more than a summery of this madness, indeed an insightful analysis.

The ultimate irony is Robert's desire to enter government to destroy government, actually our way of life, the freedoms created by our Constitution. When he says, as mentioned he wants to work with Congress to protect the unborn he accepts that to accomplish his goals he must use that which exists today, three branches of government. He says the President must work with Congress. I see Robert's as not accepting the President ala 45 as an all powerful being, rather one subservient to another branch of government. In essence he wants not to destroy our system of government, rather keep it and use what the farmers created not to destroy government but use it. He wants to pass legislation to gain his ultimate objective, government by assholes for assholes.

To Robert's I say, good luck with that. ASSHOLE!

I will state the obvious: Project 2025 is so deranged and detached from reality that it is absolutely sickening that anyone would even think this way, much less put it in writing for the whole world to see. And then be proud of it. When I say “detached from reality”, their goal of dismantling “the administrative state” on day one is unattainable and I’d like to see them even try this. Because what will be waiting for them on the other end will be complete destruction of themselves and their “ideas”. We’re getting a taste of this with the Alabama Supreme Court’s irrational view that fertilized eggs deserve “personhood”. Their attacks on the Transgender population, in particular, are despicable. Their statement that “Liberals” want “open borders” is laughable although the right wing media has created this lie. And giving “unwanted babies” to the “state” - NOPE! We know exactly what they would do with those “unwanted babies”. Argh…Just disgusting!

I didn't mind as much some of the policy suggestions, disagreeable as I found them. For example, he writes about how Congress has ceded so much of its power, and he makes a compelling argument about that. But his characterization of "the Left" is just batshit. Who are these "Leftists" who want open borders? Is it, like, a dozen Twitter accounts? It's insulting, how he sees people like me.

I think the one quote you cited in the piece perfectly encapsulates the entirety of Project 2025, which I'll quote here and change ONE word.

"Ultimately, the [Right] does not believe that all men are created equal—they think they are special. They certainly don’t think all people have an unalienable right to pursue the good life. They think only they themselves have such a right along with a moral responsibility to make decisions for everyone else. They don’t think any citizen, state, business, church, or charity should be allowed any freedom until they first bend the knee."

Is this simple projection? Delusion? Do they have NO self-awareness at all? I might also replace "church" with something else, but otherwise, this quote is exactly how I see THEM. And what happens when Biden is re-elected in November? Does this then become Project 2029? They won't go away EVER, so what can we do about this? In the event a Republican is "elected" into office again, does the Left have to stage an insurrection and start actually killing people? That doesn't seem in the spirit of "go high" when they go low, so I don't know what the answer is. Again, apres moi, la deluge!

I'm laughing at your comic use of "go high."

And I agree -- that graf is pure projection. Although I don't think they score too high on the self-awareness test, either...

Generational Immaturity. Someday they will have to grow up or be left behind. They seem to understand that they are being left behind but they don't know what to do about it. So they come up with this crap to make themselves feel important and powerful. We see it as weak and destructive.

Lordy, I'm glad you waded through all that so we don't have to. I keep wondering if Cowboy Catholics and Far Right Evangelicals ever consider, when talking about a Christian Nation, WHICH Christian they are talking about. The one with saints days, transubstantiation, and salvation through works, or the one with predestination and biblical literalism and salvation through faith alone? There have been very bloody WARS fought about this difference. Does the Pope have spiritual authority or not?

And I just LOVE " But in real life, most of the things people “do together” have nothing to do with government." I can think of a bunch of things that people do safely together BECAUSE of government. Primarily, eat. Take medicines that as a rule won't kill them. Save for a vacation or the future. Drive to family events on safe roads. (Some things that people do together that will remain not safe are go to school, church or synagogue, the grocery store, concerts, anywhere someone with a gripe and a gun might decide to attend).

And that stuff about how, once the administrative state is gone, there might be empty buildings to be repurposed for private industry. News flash. One crisis in real estate today is that there are too many empty buildings PURPOSED for private industry that are going empty, and broke.

These are just some minor points that managed to break through my nausea.

Thanks for this, Susan. You're right about the theological schism or holy war to come, if the two sides come to power. What a stupid, stupid, STUPID thing to go to war over.

I used to be a property manager of a 35 story office building in downtown Chicago. It has now been partially converted into apartments. This is happening to many former office buildings in Chicago, but I wonder if this can be sustained in the long run. I know the commercial real estate industry is in trouble like never before. I can't imagine what will happen to all of the skyrises that make up our beautiful downtown.

Another job of hard work you've done, thanks. The last time the US allowed itself to be taken over by religion it was with Prohibition (1920-1933) which begat 20th Century organized crime & the everyone does it society in which we seem to live now.

So this 21st Century attempt to energize the Federal uiverse around the police functions that will survive the attacks on the much of the rest of the Federal State and thrive by adapting to a policing role we see around the Islamic world devoted to imposing religion on us again, will boomerang on its addled, ridiculous out-of-time assumptions that this can be done to a free people.

We are still freer than that, if we stand up for American independence again in this current, evil mess.

There's a part in Unbearable Lightness of Being where he writes about how the Russians found the proper Czech brutes to rule over the populace after the Prague Spring. It started with killing animals, Kundera wrote. They'd advertise a problem with dogs or cats or whatever overpopulating and taking over a space, and the men who showed up eager to kill the dogs and the cats, they were the ones who joined the state police. They have templates to follow, if we go fascist. How many active duty police officers are MAGA? How many were bullies in high school? Not all, of course, but enough. It's scary.
