The UK rag the 'Daily Star' has a live feed on You Tube depicting Liz Truss vs a head of lettuce ~ which will go first? British humour at it's finest. Awesome Sunday read, cheers!

Forgive me, Greg, for forgetting to catch up with you on Five 8 yesterday. I was busy posting a story from WaPo to LFAA's community about the Eastern High School marching band, whose home base is in Washington, D.C. Uniforms in tatters, instruments in urgent need of repair, in high demand but hardly any funds to keep going, these musicians are not daunted as they practice their skills through the streets of Capitol Hill, all smiles as they are doing what they love the best they know how. My post was meant to show our capital city boasts more than just empty politics. To my surprise, many replied saying they were so heartened, they had donated to the band. And there was a follow-up to the story, because many more - across the world, no less! - also donated. The last I heard, the band garnered over $115,000 in donations!

I may be wrong as two left shoes, but I am willing the same win for our democracy come November 8. Just a thought.

P.S. Love this post.

Oh my gosh I'm crying! Thank you for this reminder of the power of love - for another person, for relationships, for work, for our creations. These loathsome, soulless entities get their nourishment from our fear. I'm tired of being their Golden Corral. Your comment provided impetus to change my focus from fear to power.

Thanks, Kathleen! I, too, was uplifted by this story; and then the positive feedback this band received was icing on the cake!

I love when that kind of thing happens. It restores my faith in humanity. Actually, I always have faith in humanity. I think most of the MAGA are being deceived.

Excellent piece! The final days of empire, granting power to feckless, insane and the idiotic. As the vessel heads full speed into the iceberg. Appears the Brits may be a few steps before us, but we’re both on the same path!

Is there a fork in the road…or has the money already diverted us

Dubious Jeri! The Uber-wealthy packed court jesters, the fascist alongside the unctuous derps at the wheel, their mob of peerless in vacuous idiocy on deck, the ship named “Democracy” is headed for its final destiny!

Greg, now i liked that poem.

Well my point is

Super and power is likely a bad thing for planet earth.

We need heroes, or succumb. The Ballot itself is a place where the field is truly level -- every vote should count exactly the same with precision

Heroes is not part of my vocabulary.

As is Patriot

Nor is the hopeless word, Hope.

The "Ballot"

Heres Hoping were all Heroic and vote Patriotic?

Not being heroic, I voted by mail.

What are you telling me?

Vote in person, every chance you get

Voting by mail has saved me so much frustration than voting in person. In Illinois my ballot is automatically mailed to me. I can then take my time at home researching the candidates while I fill out my ballot. I then bring it to my nearest drop box. Once received, I get an email from my county confirming that they have received my ballot. I used to get flummoxed trying to remember everything while filling out my ballot at the polling place, I'm sure I have an undiagnosed learning disability, and I always felt rushed. Voting by mail has made me feel much more confident in my choices.

Fabulous history, Thank you, Greg. I have seen the original documents and maps in the Palace of Westminster (Parliament buildings)

By the time the “Great and Most Fortunate Navy” finally reached Spain in the autumn of 1588, it had lost as many as 60 of its 130 ships and suffered some 15,000 deaths. There were "four nights of storms, and 17 ships have disappeared"

The following year, Philip sent another smaller fleet of about 100 ships. This too ran into stormy weather off Cornwall and was blown back to Spain.

Sadness, truth and hope are all present in this Beautiful poem! And isn't that what we are all reminded of as we bear witness to the ugly political process that plays out every two years. The lies, the seeking of power just for the sake of power, and the hope that enough people will see the truth of the situation we are all in together. What an absolute farce Herschel Walker is! And they try to make a mockery of John Fetterman because he had a stroke but is a very intelligent, caring and capable person. It's enough to break your heart - and that is what this political process allows.

Walker is awful. I wonder, if he should somehow win, how reliable he'd even be for the GOP. They are playing with fire there.

They will tell him exactly what to do and how to vote - they don't want him to think for himself. He's their perfect pawn.

Empires become complacent in their “empiredness.” Akin to the frog in the gradually but ever increasingly warming pot, many a fallen empire’s inhabitants were either oblivious or unbelieving that downfall could or would ever happen to them. We have a chance to avoid the fate of so many that vanished, including the Ottoman Empire, that under Sultan Mehmet II, conquered Constantinople in 1453. To do so, we first have to recognize we’re the frog, the pot is on the stove, and the stove is on.

Do you think trumpfuhrer acted the fuhrer AND buffoon at the same time by accident? It's "desecration theater"! This is all in keeping with the big money's agenda: an extension from "small government", "libertarian right wing", fomenting contempt for governance in general, to create universal ridicule of the very sanctity of "holding office". It's now UKs time....the exact same big money backs both! It will not be solved by "replacing Truss" nor "replacing trumpfuhrer". The system is rotted. it's not about ONE candidate. I'm including DNC too.

We’ve had plenty of warning, yet the cult of destruction lures like the sirens…. Greedy bastards Giving people somebody to hate and blame is more powerful than any woman’s allure, so it seems. Can anything jolt the deliberately ignorant, who are basking in the vision of power, retribution and immunity.

Expand full comment

Most of it has to do with being just plain greedy. And some of it is ignorance but I think a bigger percentage are people whose psyche will break if they have to admit, to themselves and the world, that they were duped.
