Absolutely delightful, Greg! Thank you. And yes, the image of marching over the prone bodies of the #Mangowanker cabal to this song, and maybe back again, long after their screams have ceased, is stirring now in my breast. 😊
I loved choir. I didnt realize how unifying it really was until i realized my kids did/do not know any holiday "standards." i am pretty much a pagan now but gospel music still makes me cry.
Love it. Re: school version, I have a non-100% memory of the chorus as something like Glory, glory, Hallelujah, Teacher hit me with a ruler, Smacked her in the eye With a rotten apple pie, Our truth is marching on. (or something like that)
Ours was, "Glory, glory Hallelujah! Teacher hit me with a ruler. I hit her off the beam with a rotten tangerine, our school is marching ooonnnn!" Can't stop giggling at that memory...
Oh, Greg, this was really great! Does feel like we're uniting strong against a poor man's Stalin (or a much dumber, more hubristic Mussolini - - and that's really sayin' sumpthin'! 🤣). Like everyone else fighting this good Blue fight, I want to see #MoscowMitch & his Senate cabal go down in flames, too. Had those venal, calculating CROOKS done their jobs, these past 3.5 years might not have felt like 3.5 decades. And I cannot WAIT to witness President Biden grind putin's smirk under his heel right into the dust. Let the sanctions rain down! Find the russkie spies residing in this country & ship 'em back...
Yes to these and one that I can't get out of my head now. Jingle bells Batman smells 50 miles away! Joker died Riddler cried and Robin flew away!!
We had "Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg / The Batmobile lost a wheel, and the Joker got away"
lol yes. I remember that one too. My best friend's son was suspended when he sang that at school!

Another fragment came back: Knocked her on the bean With a rotten tangerine...
Ours was, "Glory, glory Hallelujah! Teacher hit me with a ruler. I hit her off the beam with a rotten tangerine, our school is marching ooonnnn!" Can't stop giggling at that memory...
Correction: "...hit 'er off the beam with a rotten tangerine, HER TEETH CAME FLYING FORWARD!
Our version is unprintable, but the last line of the chorus was "and that was the end of school."

Well said, and yes yes yes!
My dad said back in the 60's he thought Battle Hymn should be our national anthem.
"In 2020, happily, the Hero is not just born of woman, but more often than not is a woman"
