Happy Valentines Day to my very favorite writer! 💕

We will get the fuckers. All of them. And Ivampa and Little Lurch won’t be able to run for dog catcher in Miami-Dade County when we are through. Though it will be amazing theatre to watch Princess Plump face off against Squealing Rubio. I’m collecting wines to pair with each course.

Karen, I love the "Little Lurch" moniker a lot. He is also known in some circles as Slenderman. I mean, look at him: dark suit, skinny tie, no real face, should not be near children... Slenderman!!

I'm not one of those downtrodden purveyors of doom - that's for DAMN sure! I live for your posts, Greg, and soooooo looking forward to a weekly podcast from you and LB! You guys are the best. And thanks for helping kick ass to keep our (my!) spirits up. I'm with ya!

BTW, I did not know Tuberville was HC at Alabama. All my Alabama relatives are certainly pissed at that guy - letting down Crimson Tide in Alabama? Unforgiveable. (All my Alabama relatives are Dems, too)

Thank you! As many readers helpfully told me, I got this wrong. Tuberville coached at Auburn, not Alabama, where Nick Saban has been for quite some time. The Tide can continue to roll!

That's kinda funny because Auburn and Alabama are such fierce rivals. Glad I hadn't contacted my sister yet (northern Alabama). Yep, Roll Tide!

Happy VD ❤️ to you, too, Greg, signed up to Spotify, looking forward to your podcasts!

Yesterday’s verdict may have felt like the bottom to some people, but what I felt was hope. What an absolutely amazing job the House Impeachment managers did. Brilliant people. These are the ones to lead us out of the darkness. We are the light.

Thanks for all you do Greg.

I loved your piece today. There are times it's best for me not to be online so I don't have to deal with the "How The Democrats Disappointed Me Today" crowd. The trailer sounds awesome and I look forward to hearing your podcast.

I have now all but abandoned a news site that I frequented, mostly for the fun and brilliance of the comments section, but a LOT of yesterday's posts set me off with, "if the Dems had called witnesses," or "just like I thought, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, AGAIN!" Meanwhile, Joe Biden AND the Dem majority in the Senate have been in there for THREE WEEKS, and I know most of these people thought EVERYTHING would be fixed by now, so Biden must be dragging his heels. So I had to post a paragraph or two and then WTF'ed out of there.

Here's some good news: yesterday was the actual END of Trump's presidency. It's over, there is nothing else "governmental" pending. All that's left now are the criminal indictments (hopefully), and a sad life where people that he can't stand WORSHIP him, and factions of people that he wants to be a part of, want nothing to do with him. It's delightful! I do wish him the worst.

If the Republicans want to continue down the Trump Path, they're certainly free to do so, but I don't think, in the end, it will help them. They, of course, won't realize that for a few election cycles because they ARE dumb enough to keep doubling-down on stupidity and self-destruction. In the meantime, President Biden will be stuck cleaning up their mess AGAIN, and the country can get back to moving forward instead of back to the 1940s, when Nazis ruled the day. DAMN IT! I'm "only" 63, I'm not quite ready to pack it in yet.

Trump taught us all one thing: you can never let your guard down, EVER. Remember when everyone thought it was such a joke that he was "running for president?" HAHAHA! Now, not so much. Always keep watch; the next fascist a-hole is probably just around the corner. And ALWAYS remember, we defeated Trump by SEVEN MILLION votes. We did it once, we can do it again.

Thanks for this. I had not thought about it this way, but yes yes yes!

I'm not normally Pollyannaish, but that occured to me yesterday. The ONLY thing left is the funeral! (And you KNOW that pig picked the most lavish one: full State funeral, color guard, 21-gun salute, riderless horses, memorial cheerleaders, tanks in the street, the Slovenian floozy walking behind (for a block) to Arlington; the children, oh, the poor children who will find nothing but debt afterwards, the gravestone with, "I WON that election!" engraved a little smaller than his name, topped with the eternal chocolate fountain. It will be GRAND!)

In my inner circle, I have people who are livid about the Dems giving up so easily on witnesses, including one who subscribes here who got defensive about Greg’s piece (and other voices) and had to vent with me this morning. But everyone in my inner circle is livid at the outcome of the vote and disgusted with Star Wars Emperor Mitch.

The next chapter of this filthy chronicle, for me, is (1) criminal prosecution and (2) the fragmentation of the R Party.

Say what you will about the impeachment trial, it magnified and broadcast the Trump Riot story so that even the political agnostics couldn’t miss hearing about it. Such a huge number of people are immune to news and politics, like one of my sisters. That demographic makes up a large portion of the group called swing voters, the dummies who don’t care about politics or who don’t pay much attention. The trial was a public service outreach program to that voting bloc.

We cannot overestimate the effect and impact of that PR. Having it be common knowledge that Trump planned and executed the Capitol Attack, and that the R’s supported and were complicit, is huge.

It means that popular support for criminal investigation, although not universal, will nevertheless be massive, and opposition to prosecution will be muted.

The publicity of the Jan. 6 story also means the demise of the under-one-tent Republican Party will be swifter and more severe. The GOP we have known all our lives is finished. Done.

What will it fragment into? Nobody knows. But I for one am getting a nice glass of water and mug of tea, pulling out the popcorn 🍿, and plopping myself down on the sofa to enjoy the show.

We’ll still have something called the Republican Party, but who will the members be now? What else emerges? Party of Q? Party of Trump? Party of Lincoln? Conservative Party, like in Europe? Constitution Party? One or more of the above, or perhaps something else I haven’t thought of?

We-Never-Want-Anything-To-Change Party? Keep-Sexism-and-Racism-Alive Party? Bring-Back-Lynchings-and-Slavery Party? Immigration Reform Party, a new white power party with a nuanced PC-sounding name?

Yes, I know I’m being caustically cynical, but if you were as old as me and you had to watch this party with all the closet racists and sexists and social lepers of every variety your entire life, you might be a little sick of it too.
