Greg We just watched The Burnt Orange Heresy. Have you seen it? Kind of weird that you are here writing about the world of art. I can’t recall if we (hubby) watched Six Degrees Of Separation but now I must!! I thought Donald Sutherland was excellent in Burnt Orange, of course lots of people won’t see it because it’s not an action movie, it’s for thinking. Mick Jagger is pretty good also. Anyway thanks for sharing your thoughts and life experiences with all of us!
Art Miller and my father were personal acquaintances before the second world war, being hangers-on at the University of Michigan. Even sang "The Internationale" together which brought Heat on both from Nixon & Roy Cohen. The world of people & ideas are barely a village, yo
Dad said that Arthur was taking care of lab rats & mice in the basement of the Ruthven Natural History Museum then, recently remodeled as office space. We're but shadows and dust here, Greg but gossamer threads stretch thru Time
40000 years from now will someone watch the film I Robot and know that with one slap, Will Smith lost his audience clap?
And Care?
More news worthy is the 40000 year old Borneo cave art depictions of wild cattle.
And Will Will make a documentary on the medically physical reasons his wife lost her hair. Or go on to make more films for an audience seeking entertainment.
The fake World Wrestling Federation violent entertainment show is hugely popular.
Seriously, a comedy joke by a Richard Pryor Wanna Be and a reaction by a black actor that would be Sidney Poitier is about painting.
Will Putin Paint when he retires after killing off all the Nazi's Stalin missed with saturation bombing of German cities occupied by non combative citizens? Will Flan sell or keep a Putin self portrait?
Maybe, but I feel that it's not the whole story. Terry Prachett "Satire is meant to ridicule power. If you are laughing at people who are hurting, it's not satire, it's bullying." I would substitute Joke for satire, same diff... Chris needs to apologize as well...
How I love this play, which I was fortunate enough to see at Lincoln Center, with Stockard Channing. There are so many great monologues, but Ouisa’s at the end tears me apart every time. The idea of how we cheapen our experiences by telling them performatively, like playing a juke box…really struck me, then and now. Thank you for this.
I’m also very fond of an earlier Guare play, House of Blue Leaves, about a songwriter wannabe whose songs are always entirely plaigarisms of existing hits: “I Love You So I Keep Dreaming” is “White Christmas,” for example. It’s much less controlled, less mature I suppose, but his brilliance is all there, as well as his feeling for tragedy.
Yes.

I don't know that one! Will have to check it out.

Lordy
Very cool!
Dad said that Arthur was taking care of lab rats & mice in the basement of the Ruthven Natural History Museum then, recently remodeled as office space. We're but shadows and dust here, Greg but gossamer threads stretch thru Time
Wow.
Think I've said "Wow" three times in a row now. Just Wow.
Thank you.
Full circle is right and Sidney Poitier would be reeling from his grave.
It's a lot.
This is a classic. Your last sentence says it all.
Thanks. I was pleased with it!
Great piece, Greg. I've been thinking about SDOS too!
Thanks. It's a great play.
Separations
First I heard of John Guare.
Arthur Miller I tried reading but way beyond my comprehension levels.
I looked up six degrees of separation. Again, no get it.
I know about the six days of war and that there seems to be no “separation” between
Ginni Thomas and her husband’s decisions.
Lots currently written about Ginni but that may be cruel as it
seems she may be suffering from serious mental illness.
Regarding Will Smith and Chris Rock.
Insufficient “separation” leads to physicality.
To me this was a minor incident parlayed into a lot BS reporting.
Will and Chris are both good dudes but human.
I think Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor might say, Lets move on folks.
and
P.S Lenny might say, the cops are always looking to arrest someone.
I'm now thinking of "a painter losing a painting" in all kinds of contexts. Some too close to home.
We all experience this somewhere along the way, me thinks
“A painter who has lost a painting.” Yum.
Thanks, and thanks for subscribing, Joan!
Art hustlers are sad as they "Lost" for money?
Wealth has many measurements.

Puke on that last observation

Flan is an Irish name meaning Red.
Where i live its a great Custard.
Mmmmmmmm

I bought the book
