There is a weird Kinkronicity going on. The Kinks have come up 3 times in conversations with different people over the last three days. Like you I liked them more than the Beatles or the Stones. My mom had their music in the 60s(record) and. I was into their music in high school (8-track)
Saw the Kinks perform in Philly when I was young. I have photos and autographs! Dave Davies is on Twitter. You should send him a link, Greg. Take care, friend.
Excellent piece on Sir Ray Greg! The Marquee Club unlocked some truly amazing musicians, the Davies Brothers one of the many. Your youthful music discoveries bring about many fond memories and a big Sunday morning smile, thanks!!
Just so we are all clear... east coaster, Steven "tintin" Duffy had put out "Kiss Me" and started the alternative rage in California. Studio K! The Cure, The Smiths..
People used to think I was weird for preferring the Kinks, Savoy Brown and the Allman Brothers over the Beatles and Stones but then as now feckem. I will spend the rest of the day singing "Apeman" loudly
Your article triggered me to load up my streaming station with the Kinks catalog. I'd forgotten how many great clever socially conscious songs they wrote. Lola, we should be so woke today. Celluloid Heroes, Setme Free...etc
Thanks Greg. Thats the best i could do given my knowledge of music.
I did find Eastwoods film, Bird, interesting.
And author Charles Bowden drew my attention to the man with the Golden Horn, Leon Bismark Beiderbecke who was born just a couple of river miles from where I was born.
Born at home, parents only present in an old farm house situated in the black fertile river bottom soil at Middle River and Highway 69 on a muggy July day.
A few days ago I was listening to oldies, and “Lola” popped up. I marveled at how it handled transsexuality way back then, and I posted something on Facebook about how the song might make the far right’s heads explode. But “Lola” is my complete experience with the Kinks. Mostly it’s because I’m of a different generation. Heck, in 1984 I was well into my second marriage; and at age 12 I was still months away from first hearing my teenage rock ‘n’ roll idol Elvis. But Greg, I thoroughly enjoy your writing about the authors, songwriters and poets you admire because it not only expands my awareness of previously unexplored ideas, but it exposes me to more excellent writing—yours. I thoroughly enjoy and eagerly await Prevail!
Thank you Greg! I always loved the Kinks. I saw them at Winterland in San Francisco with Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks in..... I think 1973. It’s a little fuzzy. But I do remember the music was great. I’m kind of old too.
Thank you, Greg. I was born in 1952, so your tour of The Kinks and Ray Davies et al was a delight.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love Ray.

This is one of my favorites. https://youtu.be/rgJU05ieZMU
Thanks for the Kinkronicity!
I'm very into Kinkronicity! That's a good one. There are SO MANY good ones, including the DOJ theme song, "Tired of Waiting."
You are right. There songs have been bookmarks for my life🤗
Not to mention, cool enough to hook up with Chrissie Hynde.
For a time. And then she covered Stop Your Sobbing.
The coolest ones are always the ones who are the most authentically who they are.

Oh, I bet they were great! I love the drummer, the motions he makes hitting the drums. So cool.
Double bill with the Dave Clark Five. (I am very very old!) it was a great concert.
Loved your article it took me back
Back where we started. Here we go round again. Day after day you get up and you say we gotta do it again...
The Who probably belong in that quartet, but the Kinks are indeed underrated.
Agreed, but theirs wasn't until 1965, Google now informs me.

Thanks!
Behind the (Five) 8 Ball today LOL! Will try hard to catch up with you later in the day.

I LOVE Apeman. I have to remember, next time we do the Five 8 Afterhours and I can't think of what to play.

Come for the politics, stay for the music. God save the Kinks!
And beautifully. Also I Go to Sleep. Gorgeous.
