A film (and a speech) by Charlie Chaplin
Timely. Thank you.
Thanks. I was unaware of this brilliant movie.
I think this is one of your best pieces. I needed to read it. You, Eric Boehlert and Heather Cox Richardson help me stay sane. Thank you.
I’ve known about “The Great Dictator“ for decades, in my sporadic personal heritage study of 20th C. German culture, but I’ve never seen it. Very timely mention, Greg, thank you 🙏
For anyone who has not seen this Heather Cox Richardson report about the timeline of the attempted coup by the would-be American dictator and his accomplices, here it is:
This is stunning. I had no idea. Talk about PRESCIENT!!!
Greg, wonderful article, Thank you. The Great Dictator is a work of genius, and every time I see it I am amazed at how wonderful it is. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS MOVE, DO SO NOW ❤️
As revelant now as was back then.
I guess this is the human condition.
We think too much and feel too little.
Thank you for sharing.
This Tuesday December 14 comment is off topic for Greg’s SCOTUS religion and abortion article, so I’m leaving it here.
Treason carries the death penalty. I didn’t know that.
Slowly but slowly, the shock of the January 6 Coup Attempt is wearing off and we are coming to terms with it. As a nation, we finally seem to be ready to face the truth.
The pawns who were duped into attacking the Capitol on January 6 to stop, delay, prevent, or usurp Joe and Kamala’s accession to their new jobs are guilty of accessory to treason. They are the tip of the spear or the handle of the spear.
But Donald Trump and his primary aides and the complicit Republican members of Congress are guilty of treason. They were holding the spear and directing it.
