Lovely, Greg. A delight. Thank you. Have you read The Last Good Kiss by James Crumley? It's possibly the finest crime noir ever written, and your literate tale reminds me of it, but I'm not sure why...
"Youth endures all things, kings and poetry and love. Everything but time". -James Crumley, The Last Good Kiss
Always a treat like none other. So much escaped me as I ran on the treadmill of survival as a wife, mother, career fiend. Family dementia slowed me down, so your SundayPages are most welcome.
My oldest daughter is a senior in high school right now. Counting down the last few days of her being our "child". She can't wait to get out of our house and be at college "on her own". I felt the same way but once I got there, I couldn't wait to go back home! She will go the the same University that I did so she will only be a few hours away and we will be waiting to welcome her back with open arms. Thanks for the reminder of how that felt!
We kept throwing our girls out of the house but like boomerangs, they kept coming back. They are not so far away and really, as we have gotten older, we really appreciate it.
On a separate note, have you heard of the band "Wilco"? I think you and your wife would really like them. We're going to see them tonight at The Auditorium Theatre - so excited!
I wish I could save those closing two lines as my ring tone, as my wake up alarm, as my doorbell - on any device that would constantly lift me off my feet as this did. Thank you!
The Mountain Goats front man and novelist discusses art as labor, the value of religious faith, the beauty of Chaucer, and, more or less, the secret to happiness.
Totally Cali vibes and sentiment of freedom for me. This got me teary.
It always gets me teary.
Oh, thanks SO MUCH, Greg! That was SO necessary and welcomed this morning…another fan of The Mountain Goats has been born…🥰👍
(Psst…it’s “Claremont”)
I thought so, but the spellcheck didn't flag it, so I figured it was right. Thanks!

Thanks. That's certainly a great line!
So young and a scotch drinker!

I tell my kids all the time that an urgent desire to GTFO of the hometown is perfectly normal. Ah, the cycle of life!

Yes, I know we’ve done our jobs right since she can’t wait to get away from us!
😆

I know them, but only on the fringes. I'll add them to the mix. Thanks!
I recommend “What Light”; “I Might”; “Impossible Germany”; “Jesus, etc.”-(NOTHING to do with religion) to start
Billy Joel had 50 great songs??? 🤔
More than 50. : )
And that proves my point!
