Hi Greg. Love this, thank you! Do you by any chance like Savatage? Specifically, the songs and albums they did with producer Paul O'Neill, like "Gutter Ballet" and "Streets (A Rock Opera)"?

I'm not familiar with Savatage and thought maybe this was a nonsense link, but wow that song was good. Thanks for sharing. The only downside is the sound quality at the link is horrible. Will check that album out on Tidal where I hope it sounds better!

@Mr. Miss glad you enjoyed that. I would also recommend another project that came out of Savatage called Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Greg -- while I enjoy your stuff, I was a free subscriber ... until today. Anyone who writes a tribute to Jim Steinman deserves a paid subscription.

I'm sure it's all in the ear of the beholder, and I am one who loves those big bombastic songs, but, to me, Steinman was a genius. Most of the grand Meat Loaf stuff is his. Even his newer Meat Loaf stuff was great ("I'd Do Anything for Love etc."). He has a great solo tune "Rock and Roll Dreams Come True". He has a couple of great songs on the Streets of Fire soundtrack. Almost everything he did *stands out* in, to me, a great way.

I appreciate the generous support! I really love Steinman. And while he made a gajillion dollars from royalties, he didn’t get the popular credit because he was behind the scenes. It took me a while to figure out he wrote those two non Meat Loaf songs, back before Google in the dark ages…

Thanks again!

Back in October my husband & I were watching Rocky Horror & he went down a Meat Loaf rabbit hole of greatness.

Thanks for writing about Jim Steinman. I didn't realize everything he had written.

What brilliance!

I miss when our singers & songwriters were influenced by musicals & operas with a rock angle.

Theater should be a mandatory class in high school 😊 same with choir. Singing is a life skill imo.

Thank you for the post!

I love the Rocky Horror soundtrack, too.

LOL! I went to a friend's wedding and the bride chose "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" as their dance song.

Not sure how they're doing...

LOL, not the best choice. Also: too long for the first dance.
