Thank you, Greg. Citizens United opened the door to Russian mob money, and desperate Republicans were there to suck of the great bear's tit like madmen. Followed by kompromat and manipulation of primary challenges, the desperate GOP folded like wet tissue. They are utterly owned by Russia and Transnational Organised Crime now

Totally- it’s time to overturn citizens United now. 👍

Thank you for another incredible piece, Greg. I don’t think I need a second cup of coffee this morning after reading this Greatest Hits of Outrage of the previous administration and the aiders and abettors who continue running down such a disgraceful and destructive path, and who wish to drag the country along with them.

What I love most about PREVAIL is that you don’t merely report facts; you place them in unusual contexts or frameworks that reveal previously unseen angles and perspectives. I often find myself looking things up (words I don’t know, which appear often here but are also perfect descriptors), and diving down rabbit holes of different authors or scenes from history or poetry that rattles the mind and stirs the soul. This is what intellectual curiosity looks like, and I think many here would agree that it is what makes the work on these pages so exciting and powerful.

Thank you.

That is such a great compliment, not least because you've articulated what I'm actually trying to do better than I could have, and was particularly nice to read this morning. Thank you.

Jeff Davis, you said it so well about what Greg was trying to and DID accomplish with this oh-so-well-written post. But maybe especially the part about you, Greg, not just reporting facts but placing them in contexts that bring different meanings and subtleties to light.

Greg, your writing gets better all the time - and I wasn't sure how that was possible! But it really revs me up! Thank you for helping make the US a better place. And pointing out how much work is left to do!

I agree that Greg's context, unique perspective and brilliant writing skills provide a heightened insight I don't get anywhere else.

The time is now. I hope the world can see that we are not deceived anymore the light is shining brighter and truth will win out and the deceiver and his followers will be exposed by the light of the progressive (radical left) and this my friend is how the rudder will turn if we truly love America and our social democracy we better keep the light shining on truth

I was thinking after Biden's address to the country how so many people I know have light in their eyes for the first time since I met many of them after moving to NC in 2016. I see it with news and commentary hosts, delivery people and neighbors. I am hopeful.

But, I'm going to be a bit of a Debbie Downer. I remember before we traveled to Istanbul in 2012 the excitement across the middle east as the Arab Spring was in full swing. Our hosts in Turkey talked about this guy, Erdogan in fearful tones and whispers, having no clue who he was. The world was filled with hope for a sea change away from authoritarians and unending conflicts.

With your article today, your series on Kavanaugh, an article I read last night about the far reach of Bannon's tentacles and Dave Troy's recent emergence with an in depth history of the CNP and it's broad reach and ownership of the RQP's. I am so worried about the focus and 'strategery' as Colin Ferrell so aptly played Bush on SNL, and the machine beyond our borders that is in full swing. The RPQ's, as anyone who witnessed the Wisconsin representative and Stacey Plaskett's response, are with a bullhorn telling poor, middle class white Christians "that black and brown people need to be returned to their place", "shoot em if they threaten you and heck, why not, even if they don't and by all means pass laws not allowing them to 'talk back' to cops", "they don't deserve government benefits" "women and the LGBTQ communities are destroying the military" and "families" for that matter. I'm equally worried about the exhaustion leading to a 'one off' in voter turnout for the 2020 election with unbelievably the midterms around the corner which Mitch McConnell is laser focused on.

This last election was a master class in voter mobilization and yet, 40,000 votes in an archaic and electoral system designed to empower white, rural and less populated states, would have resulted in the "other guy" returning to office and god knows what real carnage we would be seeing today. I don't know if voters realize the good that is happening: a plan for COVID that will expedite the return to 'normal', the most diverse and female centered cabinet and military leadership in the history of the US, a female VP who is also a WOC, an economy that for now seems poised to return, an authentic focus on the environment and prioritizing tribal communities and their needs and so much more. Yet 1000 x's more needs to be done to solidify a strong government for the people. Like the Arab Spring, the dark and wide swath of forces people don't see are like vultures hovering. Trump is a dying carcass whose MAGAts are feeding off of him, including Russia and China and the far-right within our country and abroad.

We are on a knife's edge, and will be for years, sadly. We MUST remain active, engaged, and vigilant. The GOP are panicked and desperate, looking at the end of their party, and possible prosecution and prison for numerous crimes. The ONE THING we must do, more than any other, is to PURSUE THE RULE OF LAW, supporting Merrick Garland and a reconstituted DoJ, as well as the clearing of white supremacists from state and local police departments. Scary days. Be strong.

We came so close to it all ending. So so so close. I think that I'm traumatized by how close we came, almost like a near-death experience.

"near death" - so true. I can't believe there wasn’t continuing gunfire. We got so very lucky.

I I haven't allowed myself to totally absorb that trauma, though my brain has embraced the knowledge of how close we came.

Yes, Greg. There is a large community of mental health experts who've been on the ready (to intervene and have the "former guy" contained and evaluated) to address the pending mental health crisis: Trauma (I feel what you are describing everyday) from loss of family members, trauma from the inability to contain what we all knew was a very unwell individual in the WH, because he wasn't contained, there's trauma from the MJT's and Boehlerts in Congress, trauma from a constant hypervigilance with tweets, and press conferences, and name calling, public shaming and cruelty and the expansion of hate groups, QAnon and far right extremists. All of that was enabled by RQP's, media (both sides and constant let's try to understand the racists), dark money and so on. The group of experts was working day and night to act on "containment" of DJT and was sabotaged within the mental health community and rebuffed every step of the way. Most people only heard from legal experts, historians, journalists, pundits and contributors that the "former guy" was "crazy", "insane", a "sicko" which was accomplished nothing but to stigmatize people who authentically suffer from mental health issues. What is happening now is no different than a tsunami where people watch the sea retreat with curiosity. Some even walk into the water retreating and then.....(this Saturday the World Mental Health Coalition is moving forward with the first in a series of Truth and Reconciliation and a panel of experts who will talk about how we heal and where we go to heal. It begins at 3). I won't use your space directly promote but anyone can find the World Mental Health Coalition website and they are on Twitter as well.

I do like the way you string words together ! :)

Something I keep wondering about: where are the Republicans Against Trump, the Lincoln Project, etc., etc. ?

How long will it to take them to emerge from their battened-down hatches and Do Something ?

Surely these various groupings weren't formed only to help Biden win ?

Hands up anyone else who saw in them people who intended to form a completely new version of a conservative party ?

Not that I'd have an axe to grind for one - I'm no conservative and would be a die-hard Democrat voter who spits upon neoliberalism.

No: I just want to read that ex-Republicans have popped their heads up, looked around and decided that now is the time to offer reasonable conservatives a platform upon which to group, eschewing everything associated with the scumbag arseholes of the Republican Party.

Add Jimmy Carter to the list of those who unabashedly accuse Putin and fellow freaks of interfering with our precious democracy. In an unguarded moment President Carter accused the Kremlin of electronic interference with vote totals in 2016 that handed the Rat Bastard the presidency.

Jimmy Carter is not one for histrionics or hyperbole.

He says it happened, it happened.

Every member of Congress implicated in the attempted take down should e prosecuted as a traitor. Trump declared war. They picked up the weapons, shouted through megaphones and incited the weak-willed angry white men who appeared at the Capitol seeking Pence and Pelosi.

Stop pussyfooting around the facts. Stop understating the words. Call it what it is, treason.

We hang traitors. So let it be with every one of them.
