It's so dispiriting. If he and his cronies do not pay for their crimes, the nation will not survive.

I totally trust Garland. This is his destiny, and, thus, ours.

Good to have you back!

The 'silver lining' must be that we can make the Midterms a referendum on djt -- and so hand the GQP a resounding defeat in November

Let's hope so. I do think the Dobbs thing is going to drive a lot more turnout that the pundit class is predicting.

When will the people who need to hear this start listening? I despair.

I feel like a lot more people are listening. At least, I hope so.

I start conversations now with, "Who knew?! Turns out trump is a ciminal!", to give folks an out. Even if some of us knew from day 1 that he was probably selling secrets to his puppet master, Putin.

The Golden Fleece of Donald Trump. Happy now, sheeps?

Is that where "fleecing someone" comes from, I wonder...

Expand full comment

Yes. And also the phrase “pulling the wool over his eyes.” Jason stole the Golden Fleece by pulling wool over the guardian serpent’s eyes. Coincidentally, snakes/serpents don’t have eyelids so their eyes are always open.

Been listening to Sammy "the Bull" Gravano's podcast lately and just came across the very same reference to TFG. Here is a guy who could take out the "Boss of Bosses", Paul Castellano, but who couldn't go near TFG because of how deeply connected he is.

This is new news to me, and terrifying. I suspect, and hope, this is why Garland is taking so long.

The one thing we can say about the AG is that he is careful, which is a good thing.

I saw today that DoJ's case will take 1 to 2 years to complete. Chances are FPOTUS will die of nature causes due to hamburgers before then!

Garland is doing it right, which takes time, which he has learned at least 3 times before.

His protection is curious, law enforcement, and criminals alike. TFG was obviously a rat in something huge, and is now well protected from anything!

Welcome Back! You have been missed! Thank you for the word of the day, Professor Olear - "analphabetic = completely illiterate". Where to start? Since that November morning in 2016, I have been left with a feeling of dread that our country would be sold off to the highest bidder. The only thing shocking to me is that it took so long for the hard evidence (in actual paper form) to surface. I did not anticipate that gift. As for the "ruling" by Orang's judge yesterday regarding a "special master" to oversee the documents, I am hearing all kinds of drama. My intuition tells me that this is just smoke and mirrors. Nothing to see hear.

Expand full comment

Thanks! It's nice to be back. This special master business doesn't appear to be more than yet another speedbump in the road, but what do I know?

Expand full comment

I think, as frustrating as the speed bumps are, they give more time and evidence for "mainstream" Republicans to recognize and reject The Don's criminality. The Court of Opinion is still in session.

Expand full comment

David Cay Johnston had Donald's criminal history somewhat before 2016 and if you didn't know it, it's because you weren't paying attention. Yes, some of us knew that like one of the legendary Seven Chinese Brothers, Donald's capacity of no limits gave him the talent to drink the swamp dry.

Yes, he did excellent work, and tried like hell to warn us. And thanks for that analogy, because now the REM song, which I love, is in my head!

I swing from "They have him dead to rights" to "The crook is going to get away with it yet again" on a daily basis. Why can't we lock him up, exile him to gitmo or worse already! It's become all too painful. Excellent piece as always. Cheers
