It's insane that any reasonable person would ever vote republican but then I noticed Uvalde county in Texas voted overwhelmingly for Greg Abbott (77%). Only white votes were counted for sure!

I really don't understand it, other than the sources of information are so screwy. Abbott's policies lead to death, but here we are.

Texas voters have been bamboozled by the triplets of evil. Also Fox. Gun nuts have murdered children too, but still think the evil trio will keep what’s left of their children safe. Unf**kingbelievable

Thank you for this informative podcast. I learned some new things for sure, and also how to better frame things I already understood… in a powerfully persuasive way. Excellent installment!!!

Great podcast with Vince Scafaria! ‘It’s All Bullshit’ is exactly the republicans economy! Dumb, dumb and dumber are the gop voters. 🤷‍♀️

"In order to sell the wildly unpopular idea of entitlement cuts to the American people..." They are NOT ENTITLEMENTS. We MUST stop using that word, because WORDS MATTER. They are investments, funded by money that was earned by workers.

I hear you, but doesn't it just literally meaning "something we are entitled to?" We ARE entitled to it.

Expand full comment

Yes, but entitlement can also have a negative connotation, like a celebrity or royalty or wealthy person feeling they are entitled to privileges because they were born to -- or have arrived at -- a certain position in life. We would be better marketers if we emphasized that Social Security and Medicare are earned...they are investments.. Y'know, what those corporate job creators say they are all about: earning and investing, so they can get their richly-deserved return.

Yes! It drives me crazy when I hear our hard earned investments tossed around like they can just take them away. It's fear-mongering and I don't want the GOP anywhere near that money (or any other money!). I hope everyone is outraged at the very thought that they even suggested they could take this away.

I will listen to the podcast this afternoon with GREAT interest. I'm turning 65 next year, and unlike the people that I had to explain to over and over that, no, they did not pay into their unemployment fund, back in another life when I worked at an unemployment office, I HAVE paid into social security and Medicare for the duration of my working life. It is NOT an entitlement, it is money set aside for YEARS with the US government, to be doled out to me when I retire, whenever that turns out to be. If Republicans think they're going to try and cut those programs, they have several more thinks coming. I will cut a bitch! They might have the House majority for now, but they forget Biden's VETO pen (probably not a Sharpie) at their peril.

On the bright side, someone called me "liberal, progressive vermin" yesterday, to which I thanked the commenter, while calling him "regressive scum." They NOTICED me!! I am so proud!

I hope the Dems are savvy enough to fend this off. With the recent report about them pushing Liz Cheney if they lose the House, they finally seem to be thinking creatively. About time!

Regressive scum, ha!

This needs to be broadcast all around, especially to the MAGAts. Still pissed that the Dems barely mentioned this issue before voting started. It would have been a barn burner….

How should a young something begin to inform herself about the powers that be, who they are, how to resist them, work around them? I didn't know where to start.

I agree 100% with everything you said here. When I hear “We don’t have the money!” I think, “Bullshit!” I won’t go into the spiritual aspects of abundance creation but suffice it to say, you are what you think. Think you will never have enough money - guess what? - you will never have enough money - very simple but very complex. Lack Mentality keeps people in self-imposed hell . My husband’s parents were born in the 1920’s and came of age during the Depression (you know, when the social safety net that the GOP wants to extinguish did not yet exist). They lived in constant fear of losing everything and chose actions to protect against that ever happening which meant they pinched every penny no matter how many pennies they accumulated. This has really shaped the way my husband thinks about money. It has taken many years to get him to accept the reality that we are going to be ok no matter what happens in the outside world. But my greater point is that people have been taught to fear money and have been convinced of thinking they don’t deserve more - a result of victim mentality. Authoritarian figures thrive on a victim mentality.

Greg, your chuckle when Vince says he tries to keep his democracy efforts separate from his careers cracks me up. Yeah, good luck with that! LOL. @ray_osa.
