“The Fascism of tomorrow will never say ‘I am Fascism.’ It will say: ‘I am anti-Fascism.’

This is the crux of everything that's going on right now in Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.

This article is the most eye-opening on the Russian invasion of Ukraine that I have read. Our feelings toward Putin and the brainwashed Russian people are correct. There is no longer a distinction between them. It is impossible for me to believe any longer that the Russian people are SO "in the dark" about what is happening that they support it. It is 2022 in Russia too, and I have always doubted the fact that EVERYONE in a country of 144 million people believe that Putin's war is justified. It's insane to believe that. But here we have, not for the first time, stories of close relatives in Russia telling their Ukrainian family members that what they see and what they hear is not what's really happening. And that is a familiar refrain heard here in the U.S. too: "No, no, no, we're not doing that! We're not suppressing votes. We're not lying to your faces. We're not racists and xenophobes, and we're CERTAINLY not looking to create a white ethnostate! We LOVE our black and brown Americans!" and on and on. It's truly disgusting.

Watch Russia and watch Ukraine. Stories like these only make me ashamed to live in a country ruled by people like Ron DeSantis, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ron Johnson, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Madison Cawthorn, Tom Cotton, or FUCKING Donald Trump. How could we vote these kinds of people into office? People like President Zelenskyy are the ideal. Ukraine's people are the ideal. We PALE in comparison. It's embarrassing, frustrating, and maddening to be living in the so-called "greatest democracy in the world," and find that this relatively quiet, small-population country in the middle of Europe is SO MUCH better than we are! Slava Ukraini!

I wish I knew his name, but the Ukrainian fellow who frequently reports from his various undisclosed locations on Nicole Wallace's "Deadline Whitehouse" usually ends his updates with something uplifting and humorous. Yesterday, he shared a story - with a photo - of what was left behind in a Ukrainian home after it had been looted and lived in by Russian "soldiers." Apparently, they had mistaken a bottle of imported olive oil for liquor and the photo shows a wine glass with the stuff in it sitting in a destroyed room with that bottle of olive oil on full display. He (maybe it's Igor?) called these so-called soldiers "barbarians" and I believe from what he describes and from what your article describes, he's absolutely correct. It may be 2022 in Russia, but it appears that the vast majority of those brainwashed people are also unwashed peasants in their outlook and attitudes. They are not too different, in my opinion, from the unwashed MAGA folks who brandish Confederate flags in our own country and who live on Fox Noise as if it were sustenance.

As usual, a different take on the war of the moment, riveting accounts of how propaganda can turn humans into lesser beasts.
