It’s quite maddening, isn’t it? Committing crimes in plain sight while msm talking heads presume to read his mind, making statements like ‘he doesn’t seem to understand,’ while, as you said, immediately forgetting yesterday’s outrage (no response to Russian bounties) pursuing the bait he scatters daily. I believe this is really what he meant about shooting on 5th Ave.: the public’s attention span is microscopically small if manipulated correctly.
Perfection. I always feel connected to so many of you. This morning I was out taking a walk and thought about the Trump T. meeting and what paul Manafort wrote on his notepad. I thought of Natalia Veselnitskaya...on and on, replaying bits and pieces of what I could recall with surprisingly very little effort. Upon my returning home..I'm was glad to see this in my email box. It affirms much of what I'm still relatively stunned by.
Future generations will look back at us like we look back at the holy men during the Black Death who tried to stop the pandemic by praying and killing cats.
That you are writing a variation of this same observation every few days is jaw-dropping and disheartening but truly necessary and brave. Granted there is some MSM willingness to engage, some chirps from IC but fear that both MSM and IC are deferring to "democratic elections" as if that possibility still genuinely exists. Remain faithful that we'll overcome, but I am truly afraid.
I maintain that Obama knew a lot more about Russian interference than he shared. Many have criticized him for "not doing more" but I think he knew the media would have uncritically repeated McConnell's and Trump's accusations of "throwing the election" had he made any announcements.
On a somewhat related note, I just read a Max Boot column at WaPo, the subject of which was what if Trump loses but he won't accept it. Boot said he participated in a simulation of that scenario which induced my fear and panic. I commented that the one thing we could count on is that the media would continue to focus on horse racey "Who won the cycle" and Dems in Disarray trope. They would fail to report on the substance of what Trump would be doing.. The media have failed us.
Agreed ~ if you haven't read it already Michael Isikoff and David Corn's book "Russian Roulette" explores what Obama knew and the no-win political situation he found himself in. As always, Mitch McConnell's villainy is unparalleled.
I’ve been trying to convey to people since November 2016 that there’s almost no chance the 2020 election will turn out any differently. People are delusional to think the election can’t be or won’t be manipulated.
"Anger and fear is what gets people to the polls. The Democrats don’t matter. The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood their zone with shit.”
- Steve Bannon
And Trump and his cabal know exactly how to "flood the zone" with shit.
That’s a lot of crime. Like, a lot. Enough to put him away for decades. And still the media prattles on, treating Trump like any other incumbent, like he’s Dwight Fucking Eisenhower. And the rest of us wait like Vladimir and Estragon for yet another smoking gun.(article:Greg Olear)
Nailed It! Perfectly! Thank you!

Well put. Social media has, I think, changed the way we think. We take in more, but seldom go deep. They have exploited this.

That's the next big topic I plan to write about. I've been avoiding it, mostly because it's scary.

Always Remember: ...
The purpose of The Media is to MAKE MONEY.... Truth, not so much

Thank you! I will have to read that book now. David Corn is an excellent reporter.
I recently read a post on emptywheel on this subject. Read at your own emotional peril: https://www.emptywheel.net/2020/07/03/maybe-trump-really-is-never-going-to-leave/
