From your pen to the breakfast tables of attorneys general and prosecutors in every state where he’s pulled his mob boss act. Let the investigations begin. Adam Schiff warned us. Senate gave him a bye and in return he’s got his little paws around the throat of our democracy. Media, turn the lights out on this perspicacious POS that conned his way into Our House. I’ll be there to chase him out with a great poster and bad singing at noon on the 20th. Who’s with me? Thereafter I’ll never mention his name again, just point to that thick unstable mien on the wanted poster and say Lemme at him. Happy New Year, GO. You hit it out of the park again.

I’d include Louie Gohmert in the shitlist. The fool is actively calling for armed insurrection and violence—AND 140 OTHER REPRESENTATIVES SEEM TO GO ALONG WITH THAT!

Couldn't agree with you more, Greg. I'm hoping this splintering GOP ("the sane" vs. "the insane") turns into a bona fide massive chasm. I hope Republicans irrevocably split and the sane side side joins with the Dems to prosecute the treasoners. Cruz-the-Ooze is at it again - - another rat-faced schemer I'd love to see kicked out & shut out (if not prosecuted). But, THE PEOPLE! The brainwashed MORON MILLIONS who are believing & spreading Qanon theories, "Stop the Steal" horseshit, etc! That's a key, enormous piece of this problem - - it's a symbiosis between Cult45 & the Treasonrattz! Maybe Biden should hire some experts on cults to be on his messaging team? The closest recent thing I can think of to what we're going through right now is Joe McCarthy and his McCarthyism reign of terror. Until one fed-up official called him out publicly, his hot air balloon rose; that public admonishment was the pin prick that ended the nightmare. But is that too simplistic an example of the multiple levels of insanity, lies, & mayhem we're experiencing right now? I'm worried about what's going to happen 60 miles north of me tonight and over the course of tomorrow. I pray no counter-protesters go out to meet those thugs. That would be playing right into IQ45's hands... I hope all businesses in DC close, forcing the invaders to subsist on the gorp their mommies packed for them...😆

Another BRILLIANT piece. Thank you for this amazing read on a very important period of time to reflect it. I've thought about rewatching Lincoln (Spielberg's film...for entertainment, since I don't want to read Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin, the more civilized work, but figured I'd read it again when Joe Biden is seated).

I'm with you on capital punishment, Greg - mostly against it. But in this instance. ADX Florence or the needle would be fine with me.

I’m on the road, working, so for the time being I cannot give this argument the thoughtful and complete treatment it deserves.

For now, I will say this:

I might present my position on this argument a little bit differently, being very clear that my use of terms like “traitor“ and “sedition” apply only to criminal action against our democracy on behalf of Russia and on behalf of self-interest. However, minor variations in position aside, I agree with the general tone and message. Capital punishment and life imprisonment are warranted in select, exceptional cases. I personally think that jail time is appropriate for every congressman who has taken money from Putin and his surrogates, and this group is the core of the “sedition caucus.” I say congress”man” deliberately, because I would be greatly surprised if any woman would be so stupid. I’m not sure if capital punishment is suitable for Trump's many and extensive crimes, but you have to wonder, given that he should be a registered sex offender, a political criminal as an accomplice of Putin, a business and tax and financial fraudster, and a completely corrupt public official who never hesitated to use influence, bribery, blackmail, extortion, and quid pro quo dealing to benefit personally and financially from his position.

In any one of those categories, I believe that double-digit years of jail time is warranted.

The threat of the American public looking the other way on the political crimes, including both the actions benefitting Putin in exchange for money, and the widespread ways he has used the office corruptly for personal gain, is very real. The story of Ford and Nixon is a very real danger.

Again, I am reminded of Al Capone. They couldn’t get him on extortion and murder and breaking peoples legs, but they did get him on tax evasion. Then they locked him up and threw away the key.

This guy is a scumbag and so many ways that it’s hard to keep track. And for reasons I will never understand, he is a magnet for other scumbags. There is hardly a single person associated with this administration, including the Republicans in Congress who have been complicit, who doesn’t deserve a criminal record because of this.

Greg I am completely mystified.

How is it that you do NOT have a million subscribers, and 5 or 10 million or 20 million followers? There are only 340 million people in this country, less than 5% of the worlds population. If we were one of certain countries in Europe, there would be millions of people following you. I come on here and I find 8 comments. 8 comments. I expect 800, and frankly I would not be surprised to find 8000. This is easily the best, the most high-quality, political commentary I have found.

“The public debate should not be about whether they should be prosecuted, but rather, how they should be punished.”

Damn right.

👏*Standing Ovation*👏

Greg, I’ve been saying this since Trump was elected but have been slapped back by naysayers telling me I’m ‘overreacting’ or ‘Democrats don’t go that way’. Fuck that noise! Democrats MUST go that way or we may never have another chance to save our Democracy. This is a hair on fire, all hands on deck, take no prisoners emergency!

BTW, have you read The Long Version by Jonathan Myerson Katz? Today’s Long Version is along this same vein. https://katz.substack.com/p/in-trumps-plot-to-seize-the-white

I spent my teens in Germany, and most of the 80s in Boston. I am well acquainted with the culture of hard-bitten cynicism endemic to those places in those times. A culture where praise is only delivered with utmost stinginess, grudgingly.

I do not live in that world. I call it as I see it.

The quality of your work, Greg, puts it comfortably in the top 1% of written and verbal material out there. CERTAINLY in the area of political discourse, where the political pieces here rank it in the top fraction of 1%..

I could sit here and wish you success, but frankly I don’t see how success could avoid finding you. Your work is absolutely superb quality.

I am not flattering you, I am telling you what I see. I have trouble seeing anything other than great success for you. My suggestion of 1 million subscribers, and five or 10 or 20 million followers, is a completely realistic consequence of the quality of what you produce.

James Carville just called the race for both Democrats. It’s nothing official of course, he’s just a political operative and talking head, but he always has something interesting to say. He’s very knowledgeable.

I am flabbergasted. It is 10:19 PM Pacific time. MSNBC’s group of Talking Heads and their guests are all talking like both Democrats will win.

Going in today, one mathematical chance in 4 of taking both seats, plus both Republicans are incumbents so they have that advantage, I was convinced at least one Republican Senate incumbent would win. Now I’m not so sure. Loeffler is a very weak candidate, but I didn’t know enough to know if Raphael Warnock was a strong enough candidate to beat her. Clearly he is. Now the question is, did Stacy Abrams and her many partners like Voto Latino get out enough of the vote to erase the usual Republican racist turnout for Perdue. Wow I did not expect a nailbiter.
