For decades, Trump has had only ONE GOAL: To evade life in prison.
Everything he has done was to evade prison, to create chaos, to virally murder more Americans than WW-2, to overthrow democracy... ALL TO EVADE PRISON. Every lie, every action, every scam ... all designed to evade prison for life. And he's still trying.
Great article. Here’s what Trump does right that no democratic leader since Kennedy has done: take the agenda to the people and by-pass Congress. Obviously you need Congress, but motivating the public is the only way past the current impasse.
It's kind of amazing to me that even now, 10/22/21, almost ten months after the Insurrection, just *reading* this timeline STILL pisses me off! I don't even think the feelings about 9/11 lasted this long at the visceral level this "event" does. Meanwhile, Condi Fucking Rice, with no sense of irony whatsoever, was reportedly on "The View" this week saying that it's time to "move on" from January 6th!
Unfortunately, I have a Zoom meeting this afternoon, but after that, I'm all about this episode! Thanks again Greg, and Sandi, for your relentless work.
That suspicion you have - that all this carefully planned violence was to put a puppet in place who would pardon him - is one I never thought about. I did, however, wonder why he was so intent on maintaining an office he had no interest in and for which he certainly was too dumb, too lazy, and too unskilled...other than protection from prison. That he got away with it for so long and was so adored by his cultist followers, only strengthened his hubris and bolstered his narcissism. I guess he thinks he is so untouchable, nothing will ever happen to him. Well, he may be lots of things, but Icarus he ain't! I don't know which entity is ultimately going to melt the wax on his wings (or his "hair" or between his ears), but it matters not. I just want to see the last of him, drowning in his orange suit.
There's a great bit on SNL back when Mike Myers used to do "Coffee Talk," and one of his best characters, Linda Richmond. This particular one had Barbra Streisand appear as a surprise, and all I remember Myers saying, amidst the other Linda Richmnondisms, was, "I can DIE now!"
I'm 63. Number 1 on my bucket list is Trump's funeral. And you know that since presidents can pick their own funeral proceedings, it's going to be a full state funeral for the ages -- gold-plated casket, lying in state, Melania or whomever in the Jackie black veil, maybe artillery parading down Pennsylvania Avenue. At the end, I will be thinking, and maybe shouting, "I can DIE now!"
Look at me hogging the comments today. I had to come back after hearing the podcast -- FANTASTIC!! I could have listened to Sandi talk for *another* two hours, and you too Greg, but seriously, it WAS Sandi's show this week. What a great guest with so many things to say about that horrible day, and still able to keep her sense of humor. 77 years old, absolutely fearless, and I suspect, suffers no fools!
I hope Biden gives Sandi a medal & that she is invited to testify to Congress. I agree that someone, maybe Pompeo, no where near the Insurrection, was ready to assume power if need be.
