Sounds like a wonderful read, and man. Sounds like much more than his guardian angel at the head of the class. Personification of the American Dream. Thank you…

A really cool guy... interesting stories..My pops was a Oner too.Seems like we don't have many anymore.Of course 2 weeks ago I bestowed that honor on yourself( time is fuzzy in my mind too after COVID .. however My pops was a self made millionaire in the medical field, but gave his discoveries to the public without patent. He was so happy to not be the 6ft tall 135lb skeleton he was during the Depression. In fact he and his other doc pals bought hundreds of ocean front property in the keys..did Enviro Impact Studies, and hoped to build a golf resort.G.Boosh and cronies ripped it out of their hands 20 years later, when Papa was disabled by heart disease. Billions were now not to be had.He gave so much to America, worked on Polio Vaccine with Salk.Set up Mash units in the Army. But vile GOP (fascists)had to take that from him.His land bordered Boosh's Yacht resort,so Papa took what he spent as payment, and 20 years taxes not reimbursed. That is Florida,That is America. No plaques,no Honors just grand theft by the Greedy. So America always Maximize your Profits, because in America.. Profits are EVERYTHING.

Thanks for sharing this, Katie. There are so many stories like this, of the exemplary human being exploited by our corrupt system. Would that it were not so!

It would be so fun to have money like that to gift people and organizations that need it or just that you want to give to. He sounds like a good guy. I’d read about him

Hope you are enjoying your Father's Day, Greg. Just remember, it's all about letting your kids enjoy themselves letting you be the center of attention!

Looking forward to reading your new book. (This is where you get to enjoy yourself letting your dad-in-law be the center of attention!)

Regards to your wife, Stephanie, who so graciously puts up with us here on Prevail...many thanks!

And Happy Father's Day to the rest of us!

Happy Father's Day, Greg! I got the book on Saturday after hearing it mentioned during "Announcements" on the Five-8 that I had to miss live. It was kind of a no-brainer to do so. I think I've read everything you've ever written, except the stuff from the Long Ago that seems lost to history. You've become my new Stephen King, well, in addition to Stephen King. Byzantine Empire, your father-in-law, dirty, dirty rubles, bee migration, birds of the Antarctic, jelly and jam recipes of Old Scotland -- WHATEVER you may write, I will be there to read!

I share your views on Fathers Day—that it’s a wannabe corollary to Mothers Day. But I’m a father and my son’s a father, with two sons of his own who are potentially in the running someday. So the beat goes on. I’m fascinated by the memoir you’re writing! Whether or not I ever get around to reading it, I’m tempted already, because of your literary skills, and I already like the guy! We’re from the same era, and I also grew up in a house with no indoor plumbing. Congratulations on having such a wonderful father-in-law! And happy Fathers Day to all of us fathers!

What a nice tribute to a seemingly fascinating man. We could all use a father -in-law worth a few cool mil. My ex father in law, who owned a stamp collecting shop in the late 1940’s &’50’s, was an artist & opera lover who died basically penniless, & my father, an architect, musician, painter, world traveler & romantic adventurer; died an untimely early death leaving his teenage offsprings precariously perched since we had to sell almost everything to pay his enormous doctor bills. Luckily, he left his first wife, my mother, an exquisite glass & brick modern masterpiece of a house that helped us weather very difficult times & presented us finally with a small legacy. I’m forever grateful to have had my father, however flawed & all too human, & miss him terribly on days like today.
